Orders of magnitude enhancement in two photon excitation efficiency using photonic molecules

Yao Zhou, Zihao Chen, Jung‐Tsung Shen

Photonic Molecule, also called Photonic Dimer, is a quantum bound state of two photons. A photonic bound state has a specific entanglement of a Lorentzian anti-correlation in frequency space and two photons are in proximity due to its binding nature.Such signatures of a photonic molecule illuminates a potential tool that increases the two-photon microscopy efficiency to orders of magnitude higher. Here we numerically and analytically demonstrate the two-photon excitation efficiency between photonic molecules, long uncorrelated light pulses and ultrashort light pulses. The high excitation efficiency of a photonic molecule enables a saturation of fluorophores, such that the linear dependence of two-photon excitation crosssection does not necessarily hold. Also, we exhibits two possible methods to obtain the photonic molecules, as a fundamental possibility for a continuous photonic molecule source.

Control of the photon emission of single molecules in a solid matrix

Baiping Han, Yujun Zheng

We consider the photon spontaneous emission of single molecules in a solid matrix with spectral diffusion. A general theoretical strategy for calculating the photon emission statistics in a solid matrix of single molecules is derived. In particular, the control photon emission from single molecules in a solid matrix driven simultaneously by a laser and an electric radiofrequency (rf) field is investigated. The photon emission of single molecules can be modulated by an rf field. The formulation also allows for the study of the average waiting time for the emission event of a single molecule.

Investigation of dye molecules for single-photon generation

P. Jonsson, John Rarity, Stephen C. Kitson +1 more

Summary form only given. Summary from only given. We are trying to develop high efficiency sources of single photons for quantum optics applications. We aim to do this by isolating single dye molecules thus limiting our maximum emission per pump pulse to a single photon. We show that a single dye molecule can be used for single-photon generation. However, dye molecules have problems with photostability. The molecules undergo irreversible bleaching after approximately 10/sup 5/ to 10/sup 6/ photon emissions.
