Quantum Survival Dimension for Coherence-Threshold Prediction in Multirate Open Quantum Systems

Omkar Nawale

Abstract Understanding and predicting the loss of quantum coherence is a central challenge in open quantum systems, quantum information processing, and quantum technologies. This study introduces the Quantum Survival Dimension (QSD) framework, a survival-scaling approach designed to characterize coherence suppression and improve prediction of coherence-threshold behaviour in multirate and non-exponential quantum dynamics. Rather than modifying established quantum theory, QSD serves as a descriptive and predictive layer built upon standard open-system dynamics. The framework was evaluated on a large synthetic benchmark comprising 840 quantum systems spanning seven channel families, including dephasing, amplitude damping, depolarizing, multirate, and non-exponential survival processes. Performance was assessed using coherence-threshold prediction tasks and compared against conventional exponential and machine-learning baselines. Results show that a physics-resolved survival model incorporating QSD concepts substantially improves prediction accuracy relative to a one-rate exponential baseline. However, QSD features alone do not provide sufficient predictive power and perform worse than several rate-informed approaches. When combined with rate-based information, QSD contributes a modest but measurable improvement in predictive performance. These findings support QSD as a useful survival-modelling language for describing coherence suppression in complex quantum systems, particularly when channel-resolved information is available. At the same time, the results indicate that QSD should be interpreted as a structured descriptive framework rather than a replacement for decoherence theory or a new fundamental physical principle. The study establishes a conservative, testable, and falsifiable approach for organizing and predicting coherence dynamics in multirate open quantum systems.

Many-body quantum trajectories of non-Markovian open systems

Jun Jing, Xinyu Zhao, J. Q. You +2 more

A long-standing open problem in the non-Markovian quantum state diffusion (QSD) approach to open quantum systems is to establish the non-Markovian QSD equations for multiple-qubit systems. In this paper, we settle this important question by explicitly constructing a set of exact time-local QSD equations for $N$-qubit systems. Our exact time-local (convolutionless) QSD equations have paved the way towards simulating quantum dynamics of many-body open systems interacting with a common bosonic environment. The applicability of this multiple-qubit stochastic equation is exemplified by numerically solving several quantum open many-body systems concerning quantum coherence dynamics and dynamical control.

Dynamics of interacting qubits coupled to a common bath: Non-Markovian quantum-state-diffusion approach

Xinyu Zhao, Jun Jing, Brittany Corn +1 more

Non-Markovian dynamics is studied for two interacting qubits strongly coupled to a dissipative bosonic environment. We derive a non-Markovian quantum-state-diffusion (QSD) equation for the coupled two-qubit system without any approximations, and in particular, without the Markov approximation. As an application and illustration of our derived time-local QSD equation, we investigate the temporal behavior of quantum coherence dynamics. In particular, we find a strongly non-Markovian regime where entanglement generation is significantly modulated by the environmental memory. Additionally, we study residual entanglement in the steady state by analyzing the steady-state solution of the QSD equation. Finally, we discuss an approximate QSD equation.
