APPROACH TO THE QUANTUM MECHANICAL MANY-BODY PROBLEM WITH STRONG TWO- PARTICLE INTERACTION. II

Earl L. Andersen, U. Uhlhorn

The methods discussed have been developed with the nuclear many-body problem, formulated as a classical quantum mechanical many-body problem with only twoparticle interaction and without any assumption of the origin of nuclear forces in mind. Two approaches characterized by different wave functions are discussed, and the general equations for the determination of best twoparticle orbitals'' are derived. The problem of the two interacting particles are examined in a common potential. This common potential is chosen as an oscillator. (W.D.M.)

QUANTUM MECHANICAL FORMALISM OF PARTICLE BEAM OPTICS

Sameen Ahmed Khan

A general procedure for construction of the formalism of quantum beam optics for any particle is reviewed. The quantum formalism of spin-1/2 particle beam optics is presented starting {\em ab initio} with the Dirac equation. As an example of application the case of normal magnetic quadrupole lens is discussed. In the classical limit the quantum formalism leads to the well-known Lie algebraic formalism of classical particle beam optics.
