Generating two-modes entangled coherent states using beam splitter

Abstract

Coherent state (also called Glauber state) refer to a special kind of pure quantum-mechanical state of the light field corresponding to a single resonator mode which describe closest quantum state to a classical sinusoidal wave such as a continuous laser wave. In this paper we manipulate entangled two mode coherent states using beam splitter (BS) and Kerr medium and then evaluate the amount of entanglement by concurrence measure. We show that it is possible to construct maximal entangled state by transmitting a laser beam from a BS and Kerr medium.

Beam splitter entangler for light fields

Xun‐Li Feng, Ruxin Li, Zhizhan Xu

We propose an experimentally feasible scheme to generate various types of entangled states of light fields by using beam splitters and single-photon detectors. Two beams of light fields are incident on two beam splitters respectively with each beam being asymmetrically split into two parts in which one part is supposed to be so weak that it contains at most one photon. We let the two weak output modes interfere at a third beam splitter. A conditional joint measurement on both weak output modes may result in an entanglement between the other two output modes. The conditions for the maximal entanglement are discussed based on the concurrence. Several specific examples are also examined.

Gaussian entanglement generation from coherence using beam-splitters

Zhongxiao Wang, Shuhao Wang, Teng Ma +2 more

The generation and quantification of quantum entanglement is crucial for quantum information processing. Here we study the transition of Gaussian correlation under the effect of linear optical beam-splitters. We find the single-mode Gaussian coherence acts as the resource in generating Gaussian entanglement for two squeezed states as the input states. With the help of consecutive beam-splitters, single-mode coherence and quantum entanglement can be converted to each other. Our results reveal that by using finite number of beam-splitters, it is possible to extract all the entanglement from the single-mode coherence even if the entanglement is wiped out before each beam-splitter.

Entanglement dynamics of quantum states generated by a Kerr medium and a beam splitter

M. Rohith, C. Sudheesh, R. Rajeev

We study theoretically the dynamics of entangled states created in a beam splitter with a nonlinear Kerr medium placed into one input arm. Entanglement dynamics of initial classical and nonclassical states are studied and compared. Signatures of revival and fractional revival phenomena exhibited during the time evolution of states in the Kerr medium are captured in the entangled states produced by the beam splitter. Dynamics of entanglement shows local minima at the instants of fractional revivals. These minima correspond to the generation of two-component Schrödinger cat states or multi-component Schrödinger cat-like states if the initial state considered is a coherent state. Maximum entanglement is obtained at the instants of collapses of wave packets in the medium. Our analysis shows increase in entanglement with increase in the degree of nonclassicality of the initial states considered. We show that the states generated at the output of the beam splitter using initial nonclassical states are more robust against decoherence due to photon absorption by an environment than those formed by an initial classical state.

An entangled squeezed state generated by an optical parametric amplifier and a beam splitter

Gang Ren, Chunzao Zhang

Abstract We propose a method to generate an entangled squeezed state using an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) and a beam splitter (BS). This device can manipulate the output quantum light field by modulating two parameters: the intensity of the OPA and the transmittance of the optical BS. For the output quantum state associated with a symmetric BS, there is no quadrature squeezing. Moreover, neither photon correlation nor entanglement are observed. However, in terms of sum squeezing, the quantum state corresponding to the symmetric BS is the strongest. Therefore, an asymmetric BS and a highly squeezing OPA are the best choices for generating the quantum entangled squeezed states.

Representation of the coherent state for a beam splitter operator and its applications

Mingxia Zhan, Fang Jia, Jiali Huang +2 more

Abstract A beam splitter operator is a very important linear device in the field of quantum optics and quantum information. It can not only be used to prepare complete representations of quantum mechanics, entangled state representation, but it can also be used to simulate the dissipative environment of quantum systems. In this paper, by combining the transform relation of the beam splitter operator and the technique of integration within the product of the operator, we present the coherent state representation of the operator and the corresponding normal ordering form. Based on this, we consider the applications of the coherent state representation of the beam splitter operator, such as deriving some operator identities and entangled state representation preparation with continuous-discrete variables. Furthermore, we extend our investigation to two single and two-mode cascaded beam splitter operators, giving the corresponding coherent state representation and its normal ordering form. In addition, the application of a beam splitter to prepare entangled states in quantum teleportation is further investigated, and the fidelity is discussed. The above results provide good theoretical value in the fields of quantum optics and quantum information.

Generation of four-photon polarization entangled states with cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Meiyu Wang, Fengli Yan

We show how to prepare three different types of four-photon polarization entangled states among four modes. The scheme only use cross-Kerr medium, polarization beam splitters and X homodyne measurements on coherent light fields, which can be efficiently implemented in quantum optical laboratories. GHZ states and symmetric Dick states can be generated in deterministic way based on the scheme. With the possible availability of suitable strong Kerr nonlinearity, another type of entangled state called genuine four-photon entangled state can be realized as well.
