Abstract

The dependence of the quantum correlation of twin beams generated from a non-degenerate optical parametric oscillator on the analysis frequency was theoretically studied with semi-classical method. It was pointed out that the quantum entanglement is higher at lower analysis frequency. By means of a pair of unbalanced fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometers, the correlation noise spectrum of the intensity-difference and the phase-sum of twin beams with non-degenerate frequencies and total power of 20mW were experimentally measured, which were 3.1 and 1.3dB below the corresponding shot noise limit at 2MHz,respectively. The experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical predictions.

Experimental demonstration of quantum entanglement between frequency-nondegenerate optical twin beams

The quantum entanglement of amplitude and phase quadratures between two intense optical beams with a total intensity of 22 mW and a frequency difference of 1 nm, which are produced from an optical parametric oscillator operating above threshold, is experimentally demonstrated with two sets of unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometers. The measured quantum correlations of intensity and phase are in reasonable agreement with the results calculated based on a semiclassical analysis of the noise characteristics given by Fabre et al. [J. Phys. (France) 50, 1209 (1989)].

Continuous-variable entanglement measurement using an unbalanced Mach–Zehnder interferometer

Chuanqing Xia, Dong Wang, Yang Wu +4 more

We propose a simple scheme using an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer to directly measure the entangled beams with correlation of amplitude quadratures and anticorrelation of phase quadratures. In the experiment, we use two fibers with lengths of 2 and 50 m to construct the interferometer. The correlation variances of amplitude difference and phase sum of the entangled beams from a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier are simultaneously measured to be 1.79 and 1.62 dB below the shot noise limit, respectively. Such a simple and convenient method has potential applications in quantum measurements.

Experimental investigation of intensity difference squeezing using Nd:YAP laser as pump source

Qing Pan, Yun Zhang, Tiancai Zhang +2 more

A strong quantum correlation between twin-beams at wavelength was observed. The intensity difference noise of twin-beams, which is generated by a semimonolithic OPO cavity pumped by a frequency-doubled and stabilized Nd:YAP laser, is about 80% (7 dB) below the short noise limit at the measurement frequency of 1.5 MHz. The threshold of the optical parametric oscillator is about 20 mW. The parametric dependence of the quantum correlation is experimentally investigated. The experimental results agree with the theory well.

Dependence of quantum correlations of twin beams on the pump finesse of an optical parametric oscillator

Dong Wang, Yana Shang, Xiaojun Jia +2 more

The dependence of quantum correlations of twin beams on the pump finesse of an optical parametric oscillator is studied via a semi-classical analysis. It is found that the phase-sum correlation of the output signal and idler beams from an optical parametric oscillator operating above threshold depends on the finesse of the pump field when the spurious pump phase noise generated inside the optical cavity and the excess noise of the input pump field are involved in the Langevin equations. The theoretical calculations can explain the previously experimental results quantitatively.

Nonclassical intensity correlation from a type I phase-matched optical parametric oscillator

K. W. Leong, N. C. Wong, Jeffrey H. Shapiro

Signal and idler beams from a type I phase-matched nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator are separated by a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Broadband nonclassical intensity correlation is observed, in agreement with a theory that includes pump noise. The maximum observed correlation, which occurs at 1.1 MHz, yields a noise level 2.8 dB below the shot noise.

Interferometric detection of optical phase shift using twin beams

Junxiang Zhang, Tiancai Zhang, Changde Xie +1 more

An interferometric detection scheme to measure optical phase shift with sensitivity beyond the shot noise limit is proposed. The theoretical calculation shows that using the quantum correlated twin beams produced from an optical parametric amplifier as the input fields of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, the minimum detectable phase shift will exceed the shot noise limit N-1/2 and approach the Heisenberg limit N-1. The parametric dependences of the minimum detectable phase shift on the nonlinear interaction, input photon number, and detection efficiency are shown.
