Light narrowing of rubidium magnetic-resonance lines in high-pressure optical-pumping cells

Stephan Appelt, Andrei Ben-Amar Baranga, Albert R. Young +1 more

We report on some unusual magnetic-resonance phenomena of optically pumped Rb vapor in high-pressure gas cells. When Rb-Rb spin exchange is the fastest spin-relaxation rate, we observe a considerable narrowing of the magnetic-resonance linewidths with increasing pump-laser power. The experimentally measured Rb magnetic-resonance linewidths are in excellent agreement with a theoretical model, which includes the processes of Rb-He and Rb-Xe spin destruction, Rb-Rb spin exchange, and Rb optical pumping.

Two-photon-excited fluorescence spectroscopy of Rb atoms in a magneto-optical trap

Alan McLean, Christian Drago, Daniel Podos +5 more

We report the results of two-photon-excited fluorescence (TPEF) measurements of the $5\mathrm{S}_{1/2} \rightarrow 5\mathrm{D}_{5/2}$ transition of $^{85}$Rb and $^{87}$Rb cooled in a magneto-optical trap (MOT). We observe TPEF at excitation powers as low as 1 $μ$W or fluxes as low as $2.98_{-0.94}^{+1.37} \times 10^{18}\ \text{photons}\,\text{cm}^{-2}\,\text{s}^{-1}$ ($^{85}$Rb) and $3.31_{-1.33}^{+2.21} \times 10^{18}\ \text{photons}\,\text{cm}^{-2}\,\text{s}^{-1}$ ($^{87}$Rb). Our results demonstrate that optically cooled Rb is a promising platform for observing sensitive two-photon spectral signatures at low photon fluxes.

Responsibility to Optical Pumping for Binary Mixtures of Rb Isotope

Chaorui Li, Qiang Tang, Xiaowei Liu

Investigation of optical pumping for binary mixtures may provide information on the interaction between atomic systems and open up possibility to control response time.Considered Rb isotope 85 Rb and 87 Rb as binary mixtures, optical pumping response can be observed with using square modulated field at 10Hz and two channels of RF sources for NMR of 85 Rb and 87 Rb respectively.Based on proposed model of three energy levels, unitary system or binary mixtures of 85 Rb and 87 Rb can be accurately described with an exponential function.According to the relation of response time between binary and unitary, the response time for mixtures is contributed from unitary ones and their concentrations.

We report the results of two-photon-excited fluorescence (TPEF) measurements of the 5S1/2→5D5/25\mathrm{S}_{1/2} \rightarrow 5\mathrm{D}_{5/2}5S1/2→5D5/2 transition of 85^{85}85Rb and 87^{87}87Rb cooled in a magneto-optical trap (MOT). We observe TPEF at excitation powers as low as 1 μμμW or fluxes as low as 2.98−0.94+1.37×1018 photons cm−2 s−12.98_{-0.94}^{+1.37} \times 10^{18}\ \text{photons}\,\text{cm}^{-2}\,\text{s}^{-1}2.98−0.94+1.37×1018 photonscm−2s−1 (85^{85}85Rb) and 3.31−1.33+2.21×1018 photons cm−2 s−13.31_{-1.33}^{+2.21} \times 10^{18}\ \text{photons}\,\text{cm}^{-2}\,\text{s}^{-1}3.31−1.33+2.21×1018 photonscm−2s−1 (87^{87}87Rb).
