Abstract

In this article the electromagnetically induced transparency of a quantum wire with longitudinal heterostructures, under the influence of external electric and magnetic fields are investigated. To this end, the group velocity and absorption coefficient of the medium in the presence of external electric and magnetic fields are studied. It is found that, electromagnetically induced transparency occurs in the system and its frequency, transparency window and group velocity of the probe field strongly depend on the external electric field and the well width. In comparison with atomic system, one may control the electromagnetically induced transparency and the group velocity of light in these structures with the well width.

Electromagnetically induced transparency and controllable group velocity in a five-level atomic system

The optical properties of a five-level atomic system composed of a 'Lambda'-type four-level atomic and a tripod four-level atomic systems are investigated. It is found that the behaviors of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and group velocity can be controlled by choosing appropriate parameters with the interacting dark resonances. In particular, when all the fields are on resonance, the slow light at the symmetric transparency windows with a much broader EIT width is obtained by tuning the intensity of the coupling field in comparison with its sub-system, which provides potential applications in quantum storage and retrieval of light.

Manipulation of pulse propagation in a four-level quantum system via an elliptically polarized light in the presence of external magnetic field

R. Karimi, Seyyed Hossein Asadpour, Saeed Batebi +1 more

The influence of external magnetic field and relative phase between two electric field components of the probe field on absorption–dispersion and group index of a four-level atomic system with two degenerate sublevels are investigated. The results show that, the behaviors of weak probe light can be controlled by an external magnetic field. It is shown that in the presence of the external magnetic field the additional electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) window can be obtained. Our result also reveal that the switching from slow to fast light or vice versa can be manipulated by changing the phase difference between the two circularly polarized components of a single coherent field.

Controlling a group velocity of light by magnetic field

Yu. M. Golubev, T. Yu. Golubeva, Yuri V. Rostovtsev +1 more

We have shown that quantum interference in a driven quasi-degenerate two-level atomic system can be controlled by an externally applied magnetic field. We demonstrate that the mechanism of optical control is based on quantum interference, which allows one to implement both electromagnetically induced transparency and electromagnetically induced absorption in one atomic system. Dispersion of such the medium allows one to control group velocity of propagation of light pulses be ultra-slow or superluminal via applied magnetic field.

MULTI-FREQUENCY GROUP VELOCITY CONTROL OF LIGHT IN Rb ATOMIC GAS UNDER AN EXTERNAL MAGNETIC FIELD

Nguyen Van Phu, VO Thi Hong Yen, Le Van Doai +4 more

The control of light group velocity via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) has opened up potential applications in photonic technologies such as information encoding, quantum processing, and optical switching. For traditional three-level atomic systems only allow light control within a narrow frequency range, limiting multi-channel applications. To overcome this limitation, this study focuses on multi-frequency group velocity control in a 87Rb atomic medium under the influence of an external magnetic field. By combining the semiclassical theory with analytical methods, we derive the expressions for the absorption, dispersion, and group index of a four-level atomic system. Based on these results, we investigate the influence of the magnetic field and laser parameters on the absorption, dispersion, and group index. The findings not only shed light on the mechanism for controlling multi-frequency light, but also suggest potential directions for developing flexible photonic devices that meet the future demands of multi-channel information processing. Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in a GaAs Coupled Quantum Dot-Ring

R. V. H. Hahn, A. S. Giraldo-Neira, Juan Alejandro Vinasco +3 more

In this work, the ground and low-lying excited states in a GaAs coupled quantum dot-ring embedded in an AlGaAs cylindrical matrix are computed under the assumption of a finite confinement potential and an axisymmetric model by means of the finite element method and the effective mass approximation. The electron energy levels are studied as functions of the intensity of externally applied electric and magnetic fields. Electromagnetically induced transparency in the ladder configuration and linear optical absorption coefficient are calculated thereupon. Our results suggest that magnetic fields are more suitable than electric fields for controlling the optical properties of this nanostructure. Also, we found that the system's response, however, exhibits a striking asymmetry: while the electromagnetically induced transparency is unexpectedly quenched under positive electric fields due to vanishing dipole transition matrix elements, this limitation is completely overcome by a magnetic field. Its application not only restores optical transparency across the full range of electric field values but also drives substantially larger energy level shifts and clear Aharonov-Bohm oscillations, making it a far more robust tool for controlling the optical properties of confined electrons in dot-ring coupled heterostructures.

Impact of Controlling Fields on the Absorption-dispersion Properties in an M-type Atomic System

Zheng Juna

The impact on the absorption-dispersion properties in an Mtype five-level atomic system interacting with external fields system are discussed by using numerical analysis. It is shown that changing the control fields can influence the absorption-dispersion properties regularly. The electromagnetically induce transparency windows can be obtained if the parameters are taken appropriately. The number of transparency windows is proportion to the number of control fields and the width of the transparency windows is related to Rabi frequencies. It is found that the electromagnetically induce transparency windows in the system narrow gradually as decreasing control fields Rabi frequencies while the dispersion of medium would be enhanced and slow-light would be realized.
