Coherent control with qudit photon states

I Rodrigues, Olavo Cosme, Sebastião Pádua

In this paper the two-photon absorption by a molecule is studied when photons are prepared in a high-dimension entangled state. The light field is prepared in a spatial two-photon qudit state and its interaction with a molecule shows new interference effects observed in the calculated absorption cross-section. Oscillations in the absorption cross-section demonstrate its dependence on the path phases of the two-qudit state. The two-photon absorption cross-section is dependent on the dimension of the two-qudit photonic state.

Two-photon absorption: transitions induced in highly symmetric molecules by a magnetic field

Davıd L. Andrews

It has recently been shown that certain two-photon transitions can be indiced in atoms by applying a static magnetic field at the intersection of two crossed laser beams. The mechanism involves quantum mechanical interference between different excitation pathways. In this letter it is shown that a similar effect takes place in any highly symmetric molecule such as methane or sulphur hexafluoride belonging to a cubic symmetry group. However, in this case, the effect occurs through a non-linear magneto-optical interaction which is quite distinct from the interference mechanism.

Resonant Enhancement of Two-Photon Absorption in Sodium Vapor

John E. Bjorkholm, P. F. Liao

Resonant enhancement of over 7 orders of magnitude of the two-photon absorption cross section is observed in sodium vapor. Two cw dye-laser beams of different frequencies and propagating in opposite directions are utilized to generate high-resolution spectra which allow the enhancement as well as destructive-interference effects of nearly resonant intermediate states to be clearly demonstrated.
