Abstract

If we have to search an unsorted database or solve an unstructured search problem, we can use a quantum search algorithm. As of now, a quantum search algorithm like Grover's algorithm takes Ω(\sqrt N) time, where N is the size of the search space. This paper proposes an improved quantum search algorithm that yields the correct result in constant time with a high probability.

An Improved Quantum Grover Algorithm

Baoyu Zheng

The algorithm proposed by Grover solves the unsorted database search problem with computation complexity of O(2~(1/2)n/m),where the size of database is N=2n and there is m target solutions. However, the successful probability of searching decreases rapidly, when the target solutions m is greater than N/4,And the algorithm is disabled when m is equal to N/2.This paper presents an improved Grover's algorithm, which can find the object with the successful probability at least 98.01% with one step when m is greater than N/4.

Quantum search algorithm in unstructured database

A. D. Kozhukhivskyi

Grover's quantum algorithm was developed to solve the problem of searching an unstructured database for a certain unique element. In general, this problem can be formulated as follows: an unstructured database consists of elements and contains one unique element that has a certain property that can be tested with polynomial complexity, and which must be found with minimal time and complexity. Classical methods require querying the database to find the desired element, while Grover's algorithm allows you to perform only approximately steps, which are iterations of the procedure, to the database and be sure that the resulting element will be exactly the desired element with a probability close to 1. As in quantum algorithms aimed at cryptanalysis of symmetric transformations, Grover's algorithm repeats the procedure (Grover's iteration) to increase the probability of obtaining the correct result. Similarly to such algorithms in Grover's method, when iterations are continued after reaching the required number of iterations, the probability of obtaining the correct result decreases. This is due to the fact that during the execution of Grover's iteration, a rotation is performed in the complex space. Thus, each iteration, making a turn, brings the register closer and closer to the desired state, but at a certain point a maximum closeness is reached, at which the continued use of iterations will lead to a turn past the desired state, which will move the state of the system away from the desired state. The database for this algorithm can be any search space consisting of a certain number of elements. So, for example, it can be applied to find a secret key for a symmetric cryptograms formation or to find a collision for a hashing function.

Calculating Optimal Searching Times of Grover Algorithm

Atr Key

To obtain the target with the probability of more than0.5,Grover quantum search algorithm need access the unsorted database o(N√)times, and this search algorithm tells people nothing about the optimal searching times. To solve these two problems ,this paper presents an algorithm calculating the optimal searching times. With this searching times Grover Algorithm will obtain the target with almost full probability.Simulation result shows that this calculating method is effective.

Quantum Search using Grover’s Algorithm: Principles, Performance, and Applications

Anggit Gusti Nugraheni, Heri Mahyuzar, Sri Hastuti

Quantum search is one of the most important algorithmic developments in quantum computing because it demonstrates how quantum principles can improve the efficiency of solving unstructured search problems. Grover’s algorithm provides a quadratic speed-up over classical linear search by reducing query complexity from O(N) to O(√N), where N represents the size of the search space. This review examines the principles, performance, and applications of Grover’s algorithm, with emphasis on its theoretical foundation and practical relevance. The discussion covers the roles of superposition, quantum interference, oracle operations, diffusion operators, and amplitude amplification in increasing the probability of measuring a desired solution. The manuscript also reviews the computational performance of quantum search in comparison with classical search methods and considers its relevance to database searching, combinatorial optimisation, cryptography, machine learning, bioinformatics, quantum chemistry, and materials science. The review highlights that Grover’s algorithm is not limited to database retrieval, as many computationally intensive problems can be reformulated as search or optimisation tasks. However, practical implementation remains constrained by current quantum hardware limitations, including decoherence, quantum noise, limited qubit availability, circuit depth, and the difficulty of designing efficient oracles. Despite these challenges, continuing progress in quantum hardware, error correction, cloud-based quantum platforms, and hybrid quantum-classical architectures suggests that quantum search will remain an important area of research. Overall, Grover’s algorithm represents a foundational quantum algorithm with significant theoretical value and potential long-term application in computational domains involving large and unstructured search spaces.

An Improved Grover Quantum Searching Algorithm

Lenan Wu

Grover quantum search algorithm access the unsorted database O (N~(1/2)) times, however, the probability of acquiring so- lutions usually falls with the increase of the number of solutions, the reason of which is analyzed and an improved algorithm based on en- larging searching space is proposed with a new parameter i to make the algorithm controllable in order to trade off between success proba- bility and iterative steps.Simulated experiments of the reciprocal problem showcase that this proposed algorithm can find solutions with higher probability than traditional Grover algorithm at the condition of equivalent iterative steps, and the success probability can even be increased if the iterative steps is unlimited. Thus,it can conclude that our proposed algorithm is more efficient and effective. The validity of the improved algorithm is manifested by experiment.

Data Search Algorithms based on Quantum Walk

Masataka Fujisaki, Hiromi Miyajima, Noritaka Shigei

For searching any item in an unsorted database with N items, a classical computer takes O(N) steps but Grover’s quantum searching algorithm takes only O( √ N) steps. However, it is also known that Grover’s algorithm is effective only in the case where the initial amplitude distribution of dataset is uniform, but is not always effective in the nonuniform case. In this paper, we propose some quantum search algorithms. First, we propose an algorithm in analog time based on quantum walk by solving the schrodinger equation. The proposed algorithm shows best performance in optimum time. Next, we will apply the result to Grover search algorithm. It is shown that the proposed algorithm shows better performance than the conventional one. Further, we propose the improved algorithm by introducing the idea of the phase rotation. The algorithm shows best performance compared with the conventional ones.
