Abstract

This chapter deals with the concept of quantum entanglement which is the most precious resource in quantum communication science. Some topics on entanglement including construction of circuits for entanglement generation are presented. The materials presented here are limited by their requirements in the protocols presented here. Books and review articles [ 36 , 37 , 106 , 113 , 134 , 139 , 140 ] contain different aspects of quantum entanglement.

Entangled Photons (<Symposium> Quantum and Information)

Keiichi Edamatsu

Entanglement is not only a fascinating phenomena predicted by quantum mechanics but also an essential and practical resource of quantum information and communication technology. Photons are the most popular and promising media to generate, manipulate, and transmit the entanglement. In this review article, concepts and progress in the generation, observation, and characterization of entangled photons are presented.

Quantum Entanglement: Concepts and Criteria

Fu-li Li and M. Suhail Zubairy

Abstract Entanglement is one of the key properties of the quantum mechanical systems that is fundamentally different from a classical system. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in the debate concerning the foundations of physics but also is an important resource in various quantum information processes. In this article, we introduce basic concepts on EPR correlations and quantum entanglement, and review established entanglement criteria, and show how to use these criteria in the generation of entanglement by considering coherence-induced entanglement and correlated spontaneous emission laser.

Quantum Communication and Security

Marek Żukowski, S. Ia. Kilin, Janusz S. Kowalik

This volume aims to assess the state-of-the-art in the field of Quantum Communication and Security and to identify new research challenges. The papers in this book concentrate mainly on quantum cryptography (both technical and experimental aspects and pure theory), general problems of theoretical quantum information and its realizations (laboratories and applied physics), and finally the related topics concerning quantum theory itself - the most fundamental questions. This publication is divided into four chapters: Quantum Cryptography; Theory of Quantum Information; Production of Entangled States, Experimental Techniques; and Quantum Communication and Computation. The editors hope to disseminate a broad spectrum of advances in quantum information and communication with this book.

Entangled Photons: Generation, Observation, and Characterization

Keiichi Edamatsu

Entanglement is one of the essential resources of quantum information and communication technology. Photons are the most popular and promising media to manipulate entanglement. In this review article, concepts and progress in the generation, observation, and characterization of entangled photons are presented. Starting from underlying theoretical concepts, a historical review on the generation of entangled photons is given. Particularly, recent results on the generation of polarization-entangled photons from semiconductor sources are reviewed and discussed.

Essentials From Quantum Physics

Binayak Samadder Choudhury, Soumen Samanta

This chapter contains concepts from quantum physics which are essential for the understanding of the teleportation protocols. Qubit system is discussed separately along with the laws of its evolution. Quantum gates and quantum circuits are described. The description is limited to the technical and conceptual requirements for understanding the materials in the book. For an extensive appraisal of the topics included in this chapter, [ 6 , 12 , 15 , 32 , 35 , 55 , 77 , 81 , 107 , 113 , 117 , 134 , 139 , 140 , 149 , 163 , 171 ] are helpful references.

Quantum Entanglement

Javid Naikoo

The aim of this chapter is to introduce the reader to various aspects of quantum entanglement. A detailed summary of the jargon of important mathematical notions, and concepts used in entanglement theory is provided. Various methods of entanglement generation are discussed followed by an introduction to the methods of detection and quantification of quantum entanglement in terms of various witnesses and measures. A brief account of some well-known applications of quantum entanglement is presented. Finally, a set of problems with solutions is provided, illustrating various important concepts discussed in the chapter.
