On Fermi Quantum Markov Chains

Abstract

Abstract We deal with the analogous of the so-called Quantum Markov Chains for Fermi systems (i.e. the models whose fundamental fields enjoy the Canonical Anti-commutation Relations), and discuss their main properties. Since the involution and the product highly differ from those of the usual tensor product, the positivity of the involved operators and functionals, not automatically satisfied, is a very delicate question. As a consequence, the positivity should be checked directly for the specific models under consideration. Therefore, we analyse some pivotal cases, providing examples which go beyond the simpler ones already studied in literature. As an interesting result, we prove that the symmetric states, that is those which are invariant under the natural action of the group of all finite permutations, are described in terms of particular Quantum Markov Chains.

Quantum Markov chains: A unification approach

Luigi Accardi, Abdessatar Souissi, El Gheteb Soueidi

In this paper, we study a unified approach for quantum Markov chains (QMCs). A new quantum Markov property that generalizes the old one, is discussed. We introduce Markov states and chains on general local algebras, possessing a generic algebraic property. We stress that this kind of algebras includes both Boson and Fermi algebras. Our main results concern two reconstruction theorems for quantum Markov chains and for quantum Markov states. Namely, we illustrate the results through examples.

On Entangled Markov Chains (Non-Commutative Analysis and Micro-Macro Duality)

Luigi Accardi, Takashi Matsuoka, Masanori Ohya

Entangled Markov chains, which can be recognized as quantum Markov chains in the sense of $[1|$ , were $inti^{\vee}oduced$ by Accardi and Fidaleo in order to extend the notion of classical random walk to quaritum systems. In [3], using our entanglement criterion for pure states [16] which is based on the notion of the quantum mutual information, we proved that the vector states defining the EMC's on infinite tensor products of matrix algebra $||generically^{I\dagger}$ are entangled. On the other hand we showed that this entanglement condition for pure state is sufficient condition for entanglement in the case of mixtures [4].This fact was then applied to prove that EMC with unitarily im- plementable transition operator induce a mixture entangled state on any local algebra.Interestingly it was also shown that all these local states provide a new class of examples (in any dimension) of entangled states which nevertheless satisfy the PPT condition [4].In this article we report the above results.

Discrete Quantum Markov Chains

Ulrich Faigle, Alexander Schönhuth

A framework for finite-dimensional quantum Markov chains on Hilbert spaces is introduced. Quantum Markov chains generalize both classical Markov chains with possibly hidden states and existing models of quantum walks on finite graphs. Quantum Markov chains are based on Markov operations that may be applied to quantum systems and include quantum measurements, for example. It is proved that quantum Markov chains are asymptotically stationary and hence possess ergodic and entropic properties. With a quantum Markov chain one may associate a quantum Markov process, which is a stochastic process in the classical sense. Generalized Markov chains allow a representation with respect to a generalized Markov source model with definite (but possibly hidden) states relative to which observables give rise to classical stochastic processes. It is demonstrated that this model allows for observables to violate Bell’s inequality.

Quantum Markov chains

Stanley Gudder

A new approach to quantum Markov chains is presented. We first define a transition operation matrix (TOM) as a matrix whose entries are completely positive maps whose column sums form a quantum operation. A quantum Markov chain is defined to be a pair (G,E) where G is a directed graph and E=[Eij] is a TOM whose entry Eij labels the edge from vertex j to vertex i. We think of the vertices of G as sites that a quantum system can occupy and Eij is the transition operation from site j to site i in one time step. The discrete dynamics of the system is obtained by iterating the TOM E. We next consider a special type of TOM called a transition effect matrix. In this case, there are two types of dynamics, a state dynamics and an operator dynamics. Although these two types are not identical, they are statistically equivalent. We next give examples that illustrate various properties of quantum Markov chains. We conclude by showing that our formalism generalizes the usual framework for quantum random walks.

Irreducibility of Quantum Markov Semigroups, uniqueness of invariant states and related properties

Franco Fagnola, Federico Girotti

We present different characterizations of the notion of irreducibility for Quantum Markov Semigroups (QMSs) and investigate its relationship with other relevant features of the dynamics, such as primitivity, positivity improvement and relaxation; in particular, we show that irreducibility, primitivity and relaxation towards a faithful invariant density are equivalent when the semigroup admits an invariant density. Moreover, in the case of uniformly continuous QMSs, we present several useful ways of checking irreducibility in terms of the operators appearing in the generator in GKLS form. Our exposition is as much self-contained as possible, we present some well known results with elementary proofs (collecting all the relevant literature) and we derive new ones. We study both finite and infinite dimensional evolutions and we remark that many results only require the QMS to be made of Schwarz maps.

Involutive Markov categories and the quantum de Finetti theorem

Fritz, Tobias, Antonio Lorenzin

Markov categories have recently emerged as a powerful high-level framework for probability theory and theoretical statistics. Here we study a quantum version of this concept, called involutive Markov categories. These are equivalent to Parzygnat's quantum Markov categories, but we argue that they offer a simpler and more practical approach. Our main examples of involutive Markov categories have pre-C*-algebras, including infinite-dimensional ones, as objects, together with completely positive unital maps as morphisms in the picture of interest. In this context, we prove a quantum de Finetti theorem for both the minimal and the maximal C*-tensor norms, and we develop a categorical description of such quantum de Finetti theorems which amounts to a universal property of state spaces.
