Microscopic foundation of the interacting boson model

Cheng-Li Wu, D.H. Feng, Jin-Quan Chen +1 more

An effective boson Hamiltonian is derived from the original Hamiltonian of a many-fermion system. The results show that when the intrinsic motion of bosons is collective and the excitation energies of the system are small, the effective boson-boson interaction can be reduced to a two-body interaction while for odd systems or systems with uncorrelated fermions, there is an additional two-body boson-fermion interaction. Both these interactions can be calculated from the original fermion-fermion ones. Thus, the microscopic foundation of the interacting boson model is established without recourse to mapping procedures.NUCLEAR STRUCTURE Interacting boson model, boson fermion hybrid representation, microscopic foundation.

Linear Response in an Interacting Boson System

Mizuhiko Saeki

The TCLE method (a method in which the admittance of a system is directly calculated from time-convolutionless equations with external driving terms) formulated in terms of thermo-field dynamics, is applied to a boson system interacting with its surroundings, referred to as the “heat reservoir”, and with an external driving field. For a boson system interacting with its heat reservoir, the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, a dispersion relation, and sum rules are studied through application of the TCLE method. The effects of the interference between the external driving field and the heat reservoir, which give the effects of the initial correlation and memory, as well as the effects of the boson-boson interaction, are numerically investigated for a non-degenerate boson system interacting with its heat reservoir, up to first order in powers of the boson-boson interaction.

Fragmentation of a trapped bosonic mixture

Ofir E. Alon, Lorenz S. Cederbaum

Abstract Fragmentation of bosons and pairs in a trapped imbalanced bosonic mixture is investigated analytically using an exactly solvable model, the generic harmonic-interaction model for mixtures. Closed-form expressions for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the reduced one-particle and two-particle density matrices as a function of all parameters, the masses, numbers of bosons, and the intraspecies and interspecies interactions, are obtained and analyzed. As an application, we consider a system made of N 1 = 100 non-interacting species 1 bosons embedded in a bath made of N 2 = 106 non-interacting species 2 bosons, and show how fragmentation of the system’s bosons and pairs emerges from the system–bath interaction only. Interestingly, the lighter the bosons comprising the bath are the stronger is the system’s fragmentation. Further applications are briefly discussed.
