Abstract

In this study, both traditional and quantum image processing methods are considered in order to highlight the boundaries of objects. For efficient encoding and processing of pixel intensities, the use of quantum ventilation, in particular the Hadamard transform, is being studied. Quantum algorithms can work with exponential acceleration compared to classical methods; this is especially important for working with large images. The study examines the influence of quantum transformations on the boundary determination process, as well as methods of amplitude permutations to obtain data on edge elements. The superposition and entanglement of qubits have shown to improve the performance and accuracy of the algorithm when processing multiple boundaries simultaneously. It has now been established that quantum computation of intensity differences between neighboring pixels plays an important role in boundary detection. Experiments with 64x64 pixel images have shown that the quantum algorithm performs well in image processing tasks. It has been substantiated that the use of the quantum approach increases processing speed and reduces computational costs. A quantum circuit of the algorithm with its main transformation stages is presented. In general, pathways for further optimization of the algorithm have been developed, which include reducing the number of qubits and adapting it for more complex images.

Edge Detection Quantumized: A Novel Quantum Algorithm For Image Processing

Syed Emad Uddin Shubha, Mir Muzahedul Islam, Tanvir Ahahmed Sadi +2 more

Quantum image processing is a research field that explores the use of quantum computing and algorithms for image processing tasks such as image encoding and edge detection. Although classical edge detection algorithms perform reasonably well and are quite efficient, they become outright slower when it comes to large datasets with high-resolution images. Quantum computing promises to deliver a significant performance boost and breakthroughs in various sectors. Quantum Hadamard Edge Detection (QHED) algorithm, for example, works at constant time complexity, and thus detects edges much faster than any classical algorithm. However, the original QHED algorithm is designed for Quantum Probability Image Encoding (QPIE) and mainly works for binary images. This paper presents a novel protocol by combining the Flexible Representation of Quantum Images (FRQI) encoding and a modified QHED algorithm. An improved edge outline method has been proposed in this work resulting in a better object outline output and more accurate edge detection than the traditional QHED algorithm.

Quantum Algorithms for Image Processing: Enhancing Computational Efficiency and Accuracy in High-Dimensional Visual Data Analysis

Ata Ulaş Güler

Quantum algorithms have emerged as a transformative approach to address the computational challenges of high-dimensional image processing tasks. This research investigates the integration of quantum computing principles, such as Quantum Fourier Transform (QFT) and Quantum Principal Component Analysis (QPCA), to optimize processes like edge detection, noise reduction, and image segmentation. These quantum-enhanced techniques promise significant improvements in computational efficiency and accuracy compared to classical methods, especially when handling complex visual data in real-time applications like medical imaging, satellite imagery, and autonomous systems. Additionally, the study explores hybrid quantum-classical architectures to bridge current limitations in noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices, ensuring resource optimization and scalability. The potential of quantum algorithms to provide faster, more precise solutions is evaluated alongside challenges like error mitigation and algorithmic stability. This research highlights the future role of quantum computing in revolutionizing image processing, paving the way for breakthroughs in computer vision and artificial intelligence.

Implementation of Classic Image Transformation Algorithm to Quantum State, Boundary Extraction and Transformation of Half-Tone Image to Binary

Sergey M. Gushanskiy, Viktor Potapov, Omar Correa Madrigal

Abstract The aim of the research is computer simulation of a quantum algorithm to solve the problem of transforming a classical image using quantum computing tools and methods, studying recognition algorithms and creating a recognition model using quantum methods. The method of quantum modeling makes it possible to convert a classical image into a quantum state, select boundaries and convert a grayscale image to a binary one, and shows the possibilities of the quantum information theory in interpreting classical problems. The main results of the article are the developed quantum algorithm that allows recognizing objects, as well as the quantum method aimed at representing/processing a color pixel image. The scientific novelty of the article is expressed in the construction of a quantum system, an exponential increase in the speed of solving computational NP-complete problems, which on classical machines can be solved in unacceptable time. The motivation for writing the work was a high growth interest in quantum computing and the benefits that they guarantee. The development of the theoretical foundations of creating software systems and the design of algorithms for new information technologies and specialized computing systems is a dynamic field, as evidenced by the number of existing works in this direction. The developed algorithms for various problems of complexity classes can give a significant gain in efficiency in comparison with existing classical ones and provide a solution to a number of complex mathematical (including cryptographic) problems.

Image Processing in Quantum Computers

Aditya Dendukuri, Khoa Luu

Quantum Image Processing (QIP)is an exciting new field showing a lot of promise as a powerful addition to the arsenal of Image Processing techniques. Representing image pixel by pixel using classical information requires an enormous amount of computational resources. Hence, exploring methods to represent images in a different paradigm of information is important. In this work, we study the representation of images in Quantum Information. The main motivation for this pursuit is the ability of storing N bits of classical information in only log(2N) quantum bits (qubits). The promising first step was the exponentially efficient implementation of the Fourier transform in quantum computers as compared to Fast Fourier Transform in classical computers. In addition, images encoded in quantum information could obey unique quantum properties like superposition or entanglement.
