Exploring the Landscape: A Systematic Review of Quantum Machine Learning and Its Diverse Applications

Sajeeda Parveen Shaik

Quantum Machine Learning (QML), a confluence of quantum computing and classical machine learning, represents a revolutionary paradigm with transformative potential. This systematic review explores the landscape of QML by investigating its underlying principles, methodologies, diverse applications, challenges, and ethical considerations. Beginning with an examination of fundamental quantum computing principles, the review navigates through various QML methodologies, comparing them with classical counterparts. Real-world applications, ranging from quantum-enhanced optimization to drug discovery, are scrutinized, showcasing the practical implications of QML across industries. The paper systematically identifies challenges, including quantum hardware constraints and ethical considerations, while offering insights into current limitations and future research directions. A comparative analysis benchmarks QML against classical machine learning approaches, providing a nuanced understanding of its strengths and limitations. Ethical considerations underscore the importance of responsible AI practices in the integration of QML. The review concludes by identifying research gaps and suggesting future directions, emphasizing the need for continued exploration in this dynamic intersection of quantum computing and machine learning. This comprehensive exploration serves as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers seeking insights into the current state and transformative potential of Quantum Machine Learning.

Quantum Machine Learning: Algorithms and Applications A Focused Review on Performance Comparison Between Classical and Quantum Implementations

Arimondo Scrivano

Quantum Machine Learning (QML) represents a promising frontier of research where the principles of quantum mechanics are combined with machine learning to offer potentially superior performance over classical counterparts. This review article explores the current advancements in QML, specifically focusing on the performance improvement and comparison between standard classical algorithms and their quantum implementations. We initiate with an overview of fundamental quantum algorithms that have found applicability within machine learning contexts, such as quantum principal component analysis and quantum support vector machines. The review then delves into a critical assessment of these quantum approaches, highlighting case studies where quantum implementations have demonstrated computational speedups or improved accuracy. Furthermore, we investigate the inherent challenges and limitations that currently hinder the widespread adoption of QML technologies, including the issues of decoherence, error rates, and quantum resource requirements. In addition, the review provides insights into the current state of quantum hardware and its scalability for machine learning tasks. Throughout, comparisons are made to outline scenarios in which quantum machine learning presents a genuine advantage over classical techniques, supported by performance metrics and benchmark datasets. The article concludes by discussing future directions in QML research, with an emphasis on algorithmic innovation and hardware improvement, to realize the full potential of quantum-enhanced machine learning.

Quantum Machine Learning Applications in the Biomedical Domain: A Systematic Review

Danyal Maheshwari, Begonya García-Zapirain, Daniel Sierra-Sosa

Quantum technologies have become powerful tools for a wide range of application disciplines, which tend to range from chemistry to agriculture, natural language processing, and healthcare due to exponentially growing computational power and advancement in machine learning algorithms. Furthermore, the processing of classical data and machine learning algorithms in the quantum domain has given rise to an emerging field like quantum machine learning. Recently, quantum machine learning, become a quite challenging field in case of healthcare applications. As a result, quantum machine learning has become a common and effective technique for data processing and classification across a wide range of domains. Consequently, quantum machine learning is the most commonly used application of quantum computing. The main objective of this work is to present a brief overview of current state-of-the-art published articles between 2013 and 2021 to identify, analyze, and classify the different QML algorithms and applications in the biomedical field. Furthermore, the approach adheres to the requirements for conducting systematic literature review techniques such as research questions and quality metrics of the articles. Initially, we discovered 3149 articles, excluded the 2847 papers, and read the 121 full papers. Therefore, this research compiled 30 articles that comply with the quantum machine learning models, and quantum circuits are using biomedical data. Eventually, this article provides a broad overview of quantum machine learning limitations and future prospects.
