Visual Analytics of Performance of Quantum Computing Systems and Circuit Optimization

Junghoon Chae, Chad A. Steed, Travis S. Humble

Driven by potential exponential speedups in business, security, and scientific scenarios, interest in quantum computing is surging. This interest feeds the development of quantum computing hardware, but several challenges arise in optimizing application performance for hardware metrics (e.g., qubit coherence and gate fidelity). In this work, we describe a visual analytics approach for analyzing the performance properties of quantum devices and quantum circuit optimization. Our approach allows users to explore spatial and temporal patterns in quantum device performance data and it computes similarities and variances in key performance metrics. Detailed analysis of the error properties characterizing individual qubits is also supported. We also describe a method for visualizing the optimization of quantum circuits. The resulting visualization tool allows researchers to design more efficient quantum algorithms and applications by increasing the interpretability of quantum computations.

Progress and prospects of quantum computing in sustainable development: An analytical review

Vaishali Sood, Rishi Pal Chauhan

Abstract The field of quantum computing holds tremendous potential for advancing sustainable development through the design and development of sustainable materials and technologies. The domain has undergone significant growth and development in recent years, necessitating a quantitative and inclusive analysis of research advancements to comprehend research trends and directions. Henceforth, a scientometric analysis of scholarly literature from the Scopus database has been conducted to understand the research status of the discipline by analysing publication trends, most cited article analysis, document co‐citation analysis, and author co‐citation analysis. Furthermore, the CiteSpace tool is used to fulfil the visualization needs and comprehensive analysis of scientific literature to highlight emerging topics and quantum computing trends. The results of the study unveil spin‐based quantum computing and lithographically defined quantum dots with exchange coupling as highly promising frontiers for exploration. These cutting‐edge advancements exhibit exceptional potential for attaining remarkable fidelity in the quantum computing domain. Furthermore, it uncovers a trove of potential research areas for delving into the captivating phenomenon of quantum entanglement. Nuclear magnetic resonance, quantum dots, and spontaneous parametric down‐conversion techniques emerge as promising areas, enticing scholars to embark on scientific quests aimed at unravelling the intricate complexities of entanglement. The study offers a comprehensive overview of quantum computing research advancements, serving as a valuable resource for researchers and policymakers driving sustainable development.

Advancing Computational Efficiency with Quantum Annealing in Complex Optimization Across Scientific Domains

Raju Shanmugam, M Babu, S Tamilselvan +2 more

The quantum annealing technique is such a paradigm that is next generation that can be used in solving optimization problem across different scientific domains like finance and material science and is capable of breaking through past obstacles to generate solutions for problems waiting to be solved. The purpose of this paper is the detailed depiction of the application of the quantum annealing in the optimization that includes the principles, applications, methodologies and outcomes and future trends all of them. Through a multidisciplinary approach, we examine the use of quantum annealing, as the method that exploits the specific features of the quantum annealing through the quantum mechanics, to explore the multitude of solution spaces faster and better than the classical methods, leading to the superior solution quality and the faster computing times. Next, we give examples for its implementation in Portfolio optimization, Machine learning, chemical optimization, Traffic management and so on depicting its role in delivering tangible benefits such as higher financial returns, precision improvement, and time savings contrast to the classical methods. Therefore, we also emphasize the current impediments, such as the scaling down the size and the ethical aspect, through which we give the way forward for the subsequent scientific researches and studies. In this abstract, we aim to depict the helix-like nature of quantum annealing in the revolution of optimization, bringing in innovations, and thus, shaping the future in which it is the quantum computing technologies that hold the central stage in addressing the complex interconnecting real-world issues.
