Abstract

The fundamental principles on which a quantum computer is built and the necessary calculations for the behavior of particles and waves are performed are those of quantum mechanics. A number of studies have outlined the potential capabilities of a quantum computer, and it is believed that it has the potential to be significantly faster than a traditional computer, especially as the input data size increases dramatically. The purpose of the research in this paper is to investigate the impact of quantum computation on encryption and security. A key question will be to evaluate how quantum computing will affect existing cryptographic methods and security systems. Possible challenges and possible solutions to address them are discussed. The research focuses on the technological aspect of quantum computing and its impact on modern encryption and security systems.

Analyzing the Impact of Quantum Computing on Current Encryption Techniques

Rama Azhari, Agita Nisa Salsabila

As the field of quantum computing progresses, the disruption to traditional encryption methods, which secure vast amounts of sensitive data, becomes an imminent threat, and conventional encryption techniques, primarily based on mathematical complexity, may no longer suffice in the era of quantum supremacy. This research systematically analyzes the vulnerabilities of current encryption standards in the face of advanced quantum computing capabilities, focusing specifically on widely-used cryptographic protocols such as RSA and AES, which are foundational to modern cybersecurity. Employing the SmartPLS method, the study models the interaction between quantum computing power and the robustness of existing encryption techniques, involving simulating quantum attacks on sample cryptographic algorithms to evaluate their quantum resistance. The findings reveal that quantum computing possesses the capacity to significantly compromise traditional encryption methods within the next few decades, with RSA encryption showing substantial vulnerabilities while AES requires considerably larger key sizes to maintain security. This study underscores the urgency for the development of quantum-resistant encryption techniques, critical to safeguarding future digital communication and data integrity, and advocates for a paradigm shift in cryptographic research and practice, emphasizing the need for 'quantum-proof' algorithms. It also contributes to the strategic planning for cybersecurity in the quantum age and provides a methodological framework using SmartPLS for further exploration into the impact of emerging technologies on existing security protocols.

Suresh Kottur, Kannan Velusamy, Perumalsamy Deepalakshmi

A new era of digital security may be on the horizon as well as the disruption of current cryptographic methods brought about by the arrival of quantum computing, which represents a dramatic change in the cybersecurity landscape. Many existing cryptographic systems, like RSA and ECC, rely on solving complicated mathematical problems; quantum computers, with their unparalleled processing capability, are capable of doing just that (Elliptic Curve Cryptography). Concerns over the security of sensitive information, online identities, and communications in the post-quantum era are heightened by these vulnerabilities. In order to protect digital infrastructures, this study investigates the potential effects of quantum computing on cybersecurity and the critical need for encryption that is immune to quantum attacks. The creation of new cryptographic algorithms that are resistant to quantum assaults is becoming increasingly urgent as the field of quantum computing advances, posing an existential danger to traditional encryption systems. A number of possible methods for protecting data against quantum computers are discussed in the study. These methods include code-based cryptmography, lattice-based cryptography, hash-based cryptography, and multivariate polynomial cryptography. Scalability, computing efficiency, and compatibility with existing systems are some of the possible obstacles to moving to quantum-resistant systems that are covered in the article. By delving deeply into the effects of quantum computing on cybersecurity, this study highlights the significance of getting ready for a quantum future and the function of quantum-safe encryption in making sure that digital security solutions can withstand the rise of quantum technology.
