Continuous-variable multiplexed quantum repeater networks

Abstract Continuous-variable (CV) codes and their application in quantum communication have attracted increasing attention. In particular, one typical CV codes, cat-codes, has already been experimentally created using trapped atoms in cavities with relatively high fidelities. However, when these codes are used in a repeater protocol, the secret key rate (SKR) that can be extracted between two remote users is extremely low. Here we propose a quantum repeater protocol based on cat codes with a few quantum memories or graph states as additional resources. This allows us to considerably increase the SKR by several orders of magnitude. Our findings provide valuable insights for designing efficient quantum repeater systems, advancing the feasibility and performance of quantum communication over long distances.

Continuous-variable quantum repeater based on quantum scissors and mode multiplexing

Kaushik Parasuram Seshadreesan, Hari Krovi, Saikat Guha

This paper presents a continuous variable, second generation, quantum repeater scheme for entanglement distribution over a lossy bosonic channel that beats the direct transmission exponential rate-loss tradeoff. The scheme is primarily based on noiseless linear amplification with the quantum scissors and a layer of switched, mode multiplexing

Discrete-modulation continuous-variable quantum key distribution enhanced by quantum scissors

Ghalaii, M, Carlo Ottaviani, Kumar, R +2 more

It is known that quantum scissors, as non-deterministic amplifiers, can enhance the performance of Gaussian-modulated continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) in noisy and long-distance regimes of operation. Here, we extend this result to a non-Gaussian CV-QKD protocol with discrete modulation. We show that, by using a proper setting, the use of quantum scissors in the receiver of such discrete-modulation CV-QKD protocols would allow us to achieve positive secret key rates at high loss and high excess noise regimes of operation, which would have been otherwise impossible. This also keeps the prospect of running discrete-modulation CV-QKD over CV quantum repeaters alive.
