Impact of Increasing the Detuning on The Nonlinear Electric Susceptibility in N-type Four Levels atom

Abstract

The effect of increasing Rabi frequencies of laser beams in resonance with the frequency of the allowed transitions on the nonlinear electric susceptibility has been studied both with or without considering the detuning in N type four levels atoms response to the laser beams. The impact of the increasing the Rabi frequencies of laser beams with increasing the detuning of the transitions on the electric susceptibility shows a reduction in the nonlinear electric susceptibility.

The Effect of Rabi Frequency on the Electric Susceptibility of the Six-levels Inverted-Y Atomic Systems

Suad A. Almjar, Eman O. Mafaa, Suad M. Abuzariba +1 more

The effect of changing the value of Rabi frequency has been studied in six level atomic system, Optical Bloch equations where used as the main tool to get the final shape of the model to treat the model. In this work we present a theoretical study of the non-linear optical properties of materials as a result of their interaction with laser radiation in resonance state. Density matrix was used in our formulation of Optical Bloch Equation. These equations were solved using Matlap program for Six-levels Inverted-Y Atomic Systems. A formula for calculation of electrical susceptibility was obtained. With increasing the real and imaginary parts of the electric susceptibility have also increased gradually which effects the index of refraction of the medium (real part), and the absorption window (described by the imaginary part). Moreover, when increasing the real and imaginary parts of the electric susceptibility decreased and we noticed that with increasing the value of the signal laser field related to transition |2⟩ ↔ |6⟩a distortion starts to appear on both real and imaginary parts. Key Words: Rabi frequency, Density matrix, electrical susceptibility, laser, Optical Bloch equations.

The Cross-Phase Kerr Nolinearity Via Quantum Interference in Four-level Tripod-type Atomic System

Hai Wang

The susceptibility of the probe field in a four-level tripod-type atomic system as a function of the probe detuning is calculated. The results show that the absorption and dispersion of probe field near EIT resonance can be significantly changed while a trigger beam interacting with a transition in this system. With the increase of Rabi frequency of trigger beam, the absorption of probe beam at EIT window becomes smaller, and its dispersion becomes larger.Such changes of susceptibility of probe beam caused by a trigger beam are corresponding to the third Kerr nonlinearity, which have an application in polarization phase gate.

Modified self-Kerr-nonlinearity in a four-level N -type atomic system

Jiteng Sheng, Xihua Yang, Haibin Wu +1 more

The self-Kerr-nonlinearity of a four-level $\mathsf{N}$-type atomic system is studied both experimentally and theoretically. The self-Kerr-nonlinear coefficient ${n}_{2}$ of the probe beam is greatly enhanced near atomic resonance, and can be dramatically modified by changing the switching laser power. With an increasing switching laser power, the slope of the Kerr nonlinear coefficient ${n}_{2}$ around the atomic resonance changes from negative to positive, and the value of ${n}_{2}$ varies from \ensuremath{\sim}--4 \ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{} 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$ to 4 \ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{} 10${}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$ cm${}^{2}$/W at certain near-resonant probe frequency detunings. Such controllable Kerr nonlinearity can find applications in optoelectronic devices, such as all-optical switching and logic gates.

Effect of laser detuning and Rabi frequency on rubidium Rydberg electromagnetically-induced transparency for atom-based electric field sensing

Kittisak Ketaiam, Nithiwadee Thaicharoen

Abstract Atom-based electromagnetic field sensing is a highly precise and sensitive technique for measuring and detecting electromagnetic fields, based on the principles of the Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). In this study, we simulate an atom-based electric field measurement system using a four-level system of rubidium atoms. We solve the steady-state solution of the Lindblad master equation using a Hamiltonian that contains information about rubidium properties and the external electric field. We observe that the splitting of the EIT signal is directly proportional to the intensity of the applied electric field, making it a highly sensitive method for electromagnetic field sensing. In addition, we investigate the effect of laser detuning and Rabi frequency on the linewidth and signal strength of the EIT signal in order to obtain optimal parameters for future experiments. This study provides insights into optimizing the EIT signal for electromagnetic fields detection, with potential benefits for future developments in this field.

Laser frequency detunings for complete inversion and optimal inversion of a three-level atom by arbitrary Rabi frequencies

A. S. Choe, J Lee, Han Seb Moon +2 more

In a three-level atom interacting with nondelayed laser pulses, the inversion dynamics is studied to examine the detunings of the laser frequencies. When two Rabi frequencies are unequal, we show the interesting fact that complete inversion occurs if chirping is used, which causes the effective detuning of a two-photon resonance line to be zero. Because fixed optimal detunings allow an easier experimental approach, it is useful to find a method for obtaining the optimal detunings for realistic ratios of two Rabi frequencies. Using these optimal detunings, the process turns out to be a diadiabatic transition from investigation of the eigenvector and Bloch vector motions, whose behaviours are compared with their behaviour in the case of complete inversion.

Giant fifth order nonlinearity in N-type four level triple quantum wells

Rohit Mukherjee, Swapan Konar

In this communication we have predicted the existence of large fifth order nonlinearity in triple quantum well structures, that arises due to the interaction of a weak optical probe pulse and two strong continuous laser beams. A fifth order nonlinear susceptibility of the order ∼10−25 m4 /V4 has been estimated within the electromagnetically induced transparency window. The fifth order nonlinearity could be controlled by controlling the values of detuning and Rabi-frequencies of the control field.
