Tunneling control of dipolar boson in triple well circuit via dipole polarization orientation and quantum sensing application

Leandro Hayato Ymai, Arlei Prestes Tonel

Precise control of the transport of ultra-cold atoms in optical lattices is essential for the exploration of quantum phenomena and the development of advanced quantum technologies. Harnessing the distinctive characteristics of the system near integrability, we investigate the tunneling control of dipolar bosons confined within a triple-well circuit via dipole polarization orientation. Based on this control mechanism, we propose a quantum magnetic compass that shows sensitivity beyond the Heisenberg limit to small variations in the orientation of magnetic fields, making it a promising candidate for sensing applications.

Ultracold dipolar bosons trapped in atomtronic circuits

We consider a ring-shaped triple-well potential with few polar bosons with in-plane dipole orientation. By diagonalizing the extended Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian, we investigate the ground-state properties of the system as we rotate the dipole angle and vary the on-site and dipole-dipole interaction strengths. We find that the anisotropic character of the dipolar interactions, as well as the competition between dipole and on-site interactions, leads to different ground states and that the entanglement between sites also depends on the number of particles. We further characterize the system by studying the condensed fraction and coherence properties for different polarization angles, highlighting the possible effect of the dipolar interaction as a manipulation tool.

Role of anisotropy in dipolar bosons in triple-well potentials

Mesoscopic samples of polarized dipolar atoms confined in three spatially separated traps conform an extended Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian in which different quantum phases appear depending on the competition between tunneling, on-site, and long-range intersite dipole-dipole interactions. Here, by choosing an appropriate configuration of triple wells, we analyze the role played by the anisotropic character inherent to the dipolar interaction in the phase diagram of the system. We further characterize the different phases as well as their boundaries by means of their entanglement properties.
