The Fundamental Equation: Energy as the Physical Manifestation of Distinction-Making

Abstract

Every physical process, measurement, or information exchange requires distinguishing between different states. We propose that this distinction-making constitutes the fundamental activity un- derlying all physical phenomena, with energy representing the quantitative measure of distinction- making processes manifesting in spacetime. From information-theoretic variational principles, we derive the relationship E = κD connecting energy to distinction magnitude D, where κ exhibits scale-dependent manifestations interpolating between Landauer’s principle (κthermal = kB T ln 2) and Planck-scale limits (κP = ℏc/lp). This framework provides a process ontology resolving longstand- ing puzzles: the measurement problem in quantum mechanics, the physical efficacy of information, and the hard problem of consciousness. We propose experimental protocols testing the linear rela- tionship across quantum, biological, and neural systems, with specific predictions for consciousness emergence at exactly three levels of recursive distinction-making depth.

Distinguishability Geometry as a Universal Foundation for Physical Dynamics

Alexander M. Tishin

Abstract We propose physical distinguishability as the fundamental primitive underlying quantum mechanics, general relativity, and thermodynamics. A state is defined operationally: two states are physically distinct if a physical interaction or measurement can reveal a difference between them. From this principle, a geometric structure emerges on the space of physical states, generating a universal accessibility measure and a geometric notion of time. A single threshold condition appears across all three domains, corresponding to the quantum speed limit, event horizons in gravity, and critical phenomena in thermodynamics. Within this framework, the standard Schrödinger equation is recovered in the quantum sector, while Einstein gravity emerges in the thermodynamic horizon sector. The framework also provides a geometric origin for the Lorentzian structure of spacetime and identifies the roles of Planck’s constant, the speed of light, and Boltzmann’s constant as conversion factors linking different physical realizations of distinguishability dynamics. The theory predicts a characteristic vacuum distinguishability scale of approximately 103 μm and an associated energy scale of approximately 7.6 meV. These quantities connect quantum-vacuum physics, neutrino-scale phenomena, and cosmological scales within a single geometric description. The framework is tested experimentally on IBM Quantum superconducting processors. Across one-qubit, two-qubit, 127-qubit, and 156-qubit experiments performed on three independent Heron-generation backends, excitation probabilities collapse onto universal curves when parameterized by endpoint distinguishability. Protocols with identical control parameters but different endpoint distinguishabilities produce outcomes differing by up to a factor of 3.8, while protocols with identical endpoint distinguishabilities yield consistent results across independent processors. Cross-backend transfer errors remain below 1%. In addition to quantum-computing experiments, the framework suggests new tests in precision metrology, including atomic-force and scanning-tunneling microscopy, where large probe displacements may provide an independent route for testing vacuum distinguishability effects. Taken together, the theoretical construction, vacuum-sector predictions, and quantum-hardware experiments support distinguishability geometry as a unified and experimentally testable framework for physical dynamics.

From this single principle, the distinguishability divergence D generates a smooth state space endowed with a Riemannian metric , a geometric velocity, an accessibility scale Λ, an accessibility ratio , and a geometric time . The framework provides a unified geometric description of the three major domains of physics. Quantum mechanics emerges through the Fubini–Study geometry of projective Hilbert space, thermodynamics through Fisher–Rao and Ruppeiner information geometry, and general relativity through the geometry of geodesic deviation. The threshold condition A=1acquires a universal physical meaning and appears in all three realizations as the boundary between physically accessible and inaccessible evolution. Variational formulations of both the Einstein and Schrödinger equations are constructed within the same geometric framework. The Lorentzian signature of spacetime emerges from a single sign reversal associated with the geometric-time direction, while the coupling constant of the distinguishability action is connected to the observed vacuum energy density. The framework further predicts a characteristic vacuum distinguishability scale ≈8.8×10^(-5) m, corresponding to an energy scale≈2.25" " meV. The theory is tested experimentally on IBM Quantum superconducting processors. Across one-qubit, two-qubit, 127-qubit, and 156-qubit experiments performed on three independent Heron-generation backends, excitation probabilities collapse onto universal curves when parameterized by endpoint Fubini–Study distinguishability. Protocols with identical laboratory control parameters but different endpoint distinguishabilities produce excitation probabilities differing by up to a factor of 3.8, while protocols with identical distinguishability produce identical outcomes across independent processors. Cross-backend transfer errors remain below 1%, providing direct experimental support for endpoint distinguishability as a universal physical variable. Taken together, the theoretical construction, variational formulations, vacuum-sector predictions, and large-scale quantum-processor experiments support distinguishability geometry as a unified and experimentally testable foundation for physical dynamics.

Observer as a Physical System: A Causal Integration-Based Quantitative Model

xinwu chen

Abstract The quantum measurement problem remains a foundational challenge due to the lack of an operable physical definition of the "observer." This paper addresses this gap by modeling the observer as a discrete dynamical system with a quantifiable causal structure, characterized by three hierarchical dimensions: Differentiation Degree, Interaction Degree, and Global Integration Degree. From these, we define the Effective Integrated Information Degree (Φ) as a single metric for the system’s information-processing capability. Based on the unitary evolution of quantum mechanics, we derive a testable core relationship: the uncertainty probability P of a measurement outcome decays exponentially with \Phi , i.e., P \propto e^{-\alpha \Phi} . This provides a mechanistic explanation for wave function collapse rooted in the internal dynamics of the observer system. We further establish a universal Mass-Energy-Information Equivalence framework by integrating Einstein’s mass-energy equivalence with Landauer’s principle, proving a rigid conversion between \Phi and the equivalent mass of the system. This work represents a paradigm shift: it transforms the "observer" from a philosophical concept into a calculable, verifiable physical system, and opens an empirically tractable path toward unifying quantum mechanics with fundamental physics. Regardless of experimental outcomes, the model provides a rigorous foundation for resolving the quantum measurement problem and advancing our understanding of the universe’s fundamental laws.

Planck-Units-Based Consciousness Field \( \Phi_{C^n} \) and Wave Function Collapse Beyond Penrose OR

Amrit Šorli

Planck units represent the fundamental scale at which physics, biology, and consciousness converge. This article develops the model in which time-invariant superfluid quantum space is the primary physical reality, composed of Planck quanta. Duration and past-future are emergent, not fundamental. Gravity is derived as a pushing effect of the variable energy density of this space, not as spacetime curvature. We introduce consciousness as a fundamental, non-created physical field, denoted \( \Phi_{C^n} \), composed of complex Planck quanta and characterized by Planck frequency. The wave function is not consciousness itself, but its mathematical description. This distinction provides a physical mechanism for the measurement problem that the Copenhagen interpretation lacks. In this model, wave function collapse occurs because the excitation of superfluid quantum space receives a coherent energy kick from the consciousness field \( \Phi_{C^n} \). This energy transfer promotes a virtual bio-photon to a real bio-photon with defined spin, enabling binary information transmission in brain microtubules. Gravity plays no role in quantum superposition. The consciousness field \( \Phi_{C^n} \) and the coherent bio-photon field play a decisive role, mediating coupling between consciousness and biological matter.

The Physics of Being: The Observer as Spacetime Curvature

Resonador Ontico

Abstract: For a century, physics has been paralyzed by the “Measurement Problem”: the inability to definethe observer within the formalism of quantum mechanics. We propose that the observer is not distinct fromthe physical system but is the localized rate of gravitationally induced state reduction. By unifying the Free Energy Principle (FEP) with Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch-OR), we derive the Master EquationΦ ∝R(∆τ). This relation proves that the collapse of the wavefunction is not random; it is an act of Active Inference performed by spacetime geometry to minimize variational free energy. Consciousness is the mechanism by which the universe resolves its own quantum ambiguity into classical history.
