Abstract

Abstract We propose a scheme to generate squeezed states in a cross-shaped cavity magnonics system by Kerr effect originating from the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The system consists of two microwave cavities and a yttrium iron garnet sphere supporting a magnon mode embodying the collective spin motion, and each cavity mode is coupled with the magnon mode through the magnetic-dipole interaction. It is demonstrated that simultaneous squeezing of the two microwave cavity modes and the magnon mode can be achieved due to Kerr nonlinearity, and the squeezing of the magnon mode can break the 3 dB limit. By utilizing a Bogoliubov transformation, a new perspective on the underlying physical mechanism for the generation of the squeezing using Kerr nonlinearity is provided. Moreover, we also demonstrate the strong robustness of the magnon mode’s squeezing against the system dissipation and environmental temperature. The present scheme provides a promising platform for quantum information processing, holding significant implications for quantum metrology and precision measurement.

Magnonic entanglement in a chiral cavity-magnon coupling system

Kang, Yuxin, Xin Zeng, Wuji Zhang +3 more

The generation of magnon entanglement and squeezing plays a crucial role in quantum information processing. In this study, we propose a scheme based on a chiral cavity-magnon system, which consists of a torus-shaped cavity and two yttrium iron garnet spheres. The magnon mode of each yttrium iron garnet sphere is selectively coupled to one of the two degenerate rotating microwave modes of the toroidal cavity. The system aims to achieve entangled and squeezed magnon states through the mediation of the cavity. We further show that bipartite entanglement can be achieved by tuning external driving parameters. Additionally, our scheme does not rely on the magnon Kerr nonlinearity, which is usually extremely weak in yttrium iron garnet spheres. This work provides insights and methods for the research of quantum states in cavity-magnon systems.

Magnon squeezing in the quantum regime

Yuan-Chao Weng, Da Xu, Zhen Chen +8 more

Squeezed states, crucial for quantum metrology and emerging quantum technologies, have been demonstrated in various platforms, but quantum squeezing of magnons in macroscopic spin systems remains elusive. Here we report the experimental observation of quantum-level magnon squeezing in a millimeter-scale yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere. By engineering a strong dispersive magnon-superconducting qubit coupling via a microwave cavity, we implement a significant self-Kerr nonlinearity to generate squeezed magnon states with their mean magnon number less than one. Harnessing a magnon-assisted Raman process, we perform Wigner tomography, revealing quadrature variances of $\sim\!0.8$ ($\sim\!1.0$~dB squeezing) relative to the vacuum. These results lay the groundwork for quantum nonlinear magnonics and promise potential applications in quantum metrology.

Magnon squeezing by two-tone driving of a qubit in cavity-magnon-qubit systems

Qi Guo, Jiong Cheng, Huatang Tan +1 more

We propose a scheme for preparing magnon squeezed states in a hybrid cavity-magnon-qubit system. The system consists of a microwave cavity that simultaneously couples to a magnon mode of a macroscopic yttrium-iron-garnet sphere via the magnetic-dipole interaction and to a transmon-type superconducting qubit via the electric-dipole interaction. By far detuning from the magnon-qubit system, the microwave cavity is adiabatically eliminated. The magnon mode and the qubit then get effectively coupled via the mediation of virtual photons of the microwave cavity. We show that by driving the qubit with two microwave fields and by appropriately choosing the drive frequencies and strengths, magnonic parametric amplification can be realized, which leads to magnon quadrature squeezing with the noise below vacuum fluctuation. We provide optimal conditions for achieving magnon squeezing, and moderate squeezing can be obtained using currently available parameters. The generated squeezed states are of a magnon mode involving more than ${10}^{18}$ spins and thus macroscopic quantum states. This work may find promising applications in quantum information processing and high-precision measurements based on magnons and in the study of macroscopic quantum states.

Macroscopic distant magnon-mode entanglement via a squeezed drive

Kamran Ullah, M. Tahir Naseem, Özgür Esat Müstecaplıoğlu

The generation of robust entanglement in quantum system arrays is a crucial aspect of the realization of efficient quantum information processing. Recently, the field of quantum magnonics has garnered significant attention as a promising platform for advancing in this direction. In our proposed scheme, we utilize a one-dimensional array of coupled cavities, with each cavity housing a single yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere coupled to the cavity mode through magnetic dipole interaction. To induce entanglement between YIGs, we employ a local squeezed drive, which provides the necessary nonlinearity for entanglement generation. Our results demonstrate the successful generation of bipartite and tripartite entanglement between distant magnon modes, all achieved through a single quantum drive. Furthermore, the steady-state entanglement between magnon modes is robust against magnon dissipation rates and environment temperature. Our results may lead to applications of cavity-magnon arrays in quantum information processing and quantum communication systems.

Squeezed driving induced entanglement and squeezing among cavity modes and magnon mode in a magnon-cavity QED system

Ying Zhou, Jingping Xu, Shuangyuan Xie +1 more

We propose a scheme to generate entanglement between two cavity modes and squeeze magnon mode in a magnon-cavity QED system, where the two microwave cavity modes are coupled with a massive yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere through magnetic dipole interaction. The nonlinearity used in our system originates from a squeezed driving via parametric down-conversion process, which is the reason to cause entanglement and squeezing. By using the mean field approximation and employing experimentally feasible parameters, we demonstrate that the system shows zero entanglement and squeezing without squeezed driving. Meanwhile, our QED system denotes that the entanglement between squeezed cavity mode and magnon mode can be transferred to the other cavity mode and magnon mode via magnon-cavity coupling interaction, and then the two cavity modes get entangled. A genuinely tripartite entangled state is formed. We also show that magnon mode can be prepared in a squeezed state via magnon-cavity beam-splitter interaction, which is as a result of the squeezed field. Moreover, we show that it is a good way to enhance entanglement and squeezing by increasing the nonlinear gain coefficient of squeezed driving. Our results denote that magnon-cavity QED system is a powerful platform for studying macroscopic quantum phenomena, which illustrates a new method to photon-photon entanglement and magnon squeezing.

Generation of Entanglement and Perfect One‐Way EPR Steering via Kerr Nonlinearity in Cavity Magnonics System

Jia‐Xin Wang, Cheng‐Hua Bai, Qi Guo

Abstract A scheme is proposed for generating entanglement and achieving perfect one‐way EPR (Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen) steering in a cross‐shaped cavity magnonics system via the Kerr effect arising from magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The scheme involves two microwave cavities with distinct quality factors that simultaneously couple to a magnon mode of a macroscopic yttrium‐iron‐garnet sphere via the magnetic‐dipole interaction. It is demonstrated that both the bipartite and tripartite entanglement among the three modes will be generated due to Kerr nonlinearity, and the perfect one‐way EPR steering will also be achieved between the cavity with higher quality factor and the magnon mode. Notably, this scheme differs from conventional protocols that produce asymmetric EPR steering by introducing additional unbalanced losses or noises; instead, it can generate and manipulate one‐way EPR steering solely by adjusting the detuning between the magnon mode and the microwave drive field. It is also analyzed that the robustness of the entanglement and EPR steering against the dissipation of magnon and environmental temperature. The present scheme may provide a promising platform and an efficient quantum resource for quantum information processing.
