A Monte Carlo Study of Dynamic Phase Transitions Observed in the Kinetic S = 1 Ising Model on Nonregular Lattices

Abstract

In the present paper, we discuss the thermodynamic and dynamic phase transition properties of the kinetic Blume-Capel model with spin-1, defined on non-regular lattices, namely decorated simple cubic, decorated triangular, and decorated square (Lieb) lattice geometries. Benefiting from the recent results obtained for the thermodynamic phase transitions of the aforementioned lattice topologies [Azhari, M. and Yu, U., J. Stat. Mech. (2022) 033204], we explore the variation of the dynamic order parameter, dynamic scaling variance, and dynamic magnetic susceptibility as functions of the amplitude, bias, and period of the oscillating field sequence. According to the simulations, a second-order dynamic phase transition takes place at a critical field period for the systems with zero bias. A particular emphasis has also been devoted to metamagnetic anomalies emerging in the dynamic paramagnetic phase. In this regard, the generic two-peak symmetric behavior of the dynamic response functions has been found in the slow critical dynamics (i.e. dynamic paramagnetic) regime. Our results yield that the characteristics of the dynamic phase transitions observed in the kinetic Ising model on regular lattices can be extended to such non-regular lattices with a larger spin value.

Exploring the equilibrium and dynamic phase transition properties of the Ising ferromagnet on a decorated triangular lattice

Yusuf Yüksel

We study the equilibrium and dynamic phase transition properties of a two-dimensional Ising model on a decorated triangular lattice under the influence of a time-dependent magnetic field composed of a periodic square wave part plus a time-independent bias term. Using Monte Carlo simulations with a standard Metropolis algorithm, we determine the equilibrium critical behavior in zero field. At a fixed temperature corresponding to the multidroplet regime, we locate the relaxation time and the dynamic critical half period at which a dynamic phase transition takes place between ferromagnetic and paramagnetic states. Benefiting from finite-size scaling theory, we estimate the dynamic critical exponent ratios for the dynamic order parameter and its scaled variance, respectively. The response function of the average energy is found to follow a logarithmic scaling as a function of lattice size. At the critical half period and in the vicinity of a small bias field regime, the average of the dynamic order parameter obeys a scaling relation with a dynamic scaling exponent which is very close to the equilibrium critical isotherm value. Finally, in the slow critical dynamics regime, investigation of metamagnetic fluctuations in the presence of bias field reveals a symmetric double-peak behavior for the scaled variance contours of the dynamic order parameter and average energy. Our results strongly resemble those previously reported for kinetic Ising models.

Nonequilibrium behavior of the kinetic metamagnetic spin-5/2 Blume—Capel model

Ümüt Temizer

The dynamic magnetic behavior of the kinetic metamagnetic spin-5/2 Blume—Capel model is examined, within a mean-field approach, under a time-dependent oscillating magnetic field. To describe the kinetics of the system, Glauber-type stochastic dynamics has been utilized. The mean-field dynamic equations of the model are obtained from the Master equation. Firstly, these dynamic equations are solved to find the phases in the system. Then, the dynamic phase transition temperatures are obtained by investigating the thermal behavior of dynamic sublattice magnetizations. Moreover, from this investigation, the nature of the phase transitions (first- or second-order) is characterized. Finally, the dynamic phase diagrams are plotted in five different planes. It is found that the dynamic phase diagrams contain the paramagnetic (P), antiferromagnetic (AF 5/2 , AF 3/2 , AF 1/2 ) phases and five different mixed phases. The phase diagrams also display many dynamic critical points, such as tricritical point, triple point, quadruple point, double critical end point and separating point.

Monte Carlo studies of the Blume–Capel model on nonregular two- and three-dimensional lattices: phase diagrams, tricriticality, and critical exponents

Mouhcine Azhari, Unjong Yu

Abstract We perform Monte Carlo simulations, combining both the Wang–Landau and the Metropolis algorithms, to investigate the phase diagrams of the Blume–Capel model on different types of nonregular lattices (Lieb lattice (LL), decorated triangular lattice (DTL), and decorated simple cubic lattice (DSC)). The nonregular character of the lattices induces a double transition (reentrant behavior) in the region of the phase diagram at which the nature of the phase transition changes from first-order to second-order. A physical mechanism underlying this reentrance is proposed. The large-scale Monte Carlo simulations are performed with the finite-size scaling analysis to compute the critical exponents and the critical Binder cumulant for three different values of the anisotropy Δ / J ∈ 0 , 1 , 1.34 ( for LL ) , 1.51 ( for DTL and DSC ) , showing thus no deviation from the standard Ising universality class in two and three dimensions. We report also the location of the tricritical point to considerable precision: (Δ t / J = 1.3457(1); k B T t / J = 0.309(2)), (Δ t / J = 1.5766(1); k B T t / J = 0.481(2)), and (Δ t / J = 1.5933(1); k B T t / J = 0.569(4)) for LL, DTL, and DSC, respectively.

Phase transitions in a three-dimensional kinetic spin-1/2 Ising model with random field: Effective-field-theory study

Emanuel Costabile, J. Ricardo de Sousa

The dynamical phase transitions of the kinetic Ising model in the presence of a random magnetic field with a bimodal probability distribution is studied by using effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations. We have used a Glauber-type stochastic dynamic to describe the time evolution of the system, where the system strongly depends on the H≡√<H(i)(2)>(c) root mean square deviation of the magnetic field. The EFT dynamic equation is given for the simple cubic lattice (z=6), and the dynamic order parameter is calculated. The system presents ferromagnetic and paramagnetic states for low and high temperatures, respectively. Our results predict first-order transitions at low temperatures and large disorder strengths, which corresponds to the existence of a nonequilibrium tricritical point (TCP) in a phase diagram in the T-H plane. We compare the results with the equilibrium phase diagram, where only the first-order line is different. Our qualitative results are compatible with recent Monte Carlo simulations.

Systematic investigation of dynamic magnetic phase transitions using the path probability method. III. Mixed-spin (3/2,7/2) Blume–Capel Ising system on a square lattice under an oscillating magnetic field

Mustafa Gençaslan

The dynamic magnetic properties of the mixed-spin (3/2,7/2) Blume–Capel Ising system on an interpenetrating square lattice are investigated using the path probability method in the presence of a time-dependent oscillating magnetic field. The thermal variations of the dynamic magnetizations, stationary magnetization oscillations, compensation behavior and dynamic phase diagrams are examined for both ferrimagnetic and ferromagnetic exchange interactions. The system exhibits dynamically ordered and disordered phases separated by first- and second-order dynamic phase transition lines, together with dynamic tricritical points. For the ferrimagnetic case, coexistence regions and P-, Q-, R-, [Formula: see text] and N-type compensation behaviors are observed, whereas W-, or M-type characteristics are absent within the investigated parameter ranges. Increasing the crystal-field interaction stabilizes the ordered phase, while increasing the magnetic-field amplitude promotes dynamic disordering and bistability. In contrast, the ferromagnetic case exhibits a simpler phase structure, with broader ordered regions, weaker coexistence effects and no compensation behavior. The results demonstrate that the interplay among exchange interactions, crystal-field interactions and oscillating magnetic field governs the nonequilibrium phase topology and dynamic critical behavior of the mixed-spin (3/2,7/2) system.
