On non-commutativity in quantum theory (III): determinantal point processes and non-relativistic quantum mechanics

Luca Curcuraci

This article concludes our critical analysis on the role of non-commutativity in quantum theory. After a brief introduction of the necessary notions on point processes, we re-analyse model B proposed in "On non-commutativity in quantum theory (II): toy models for non-commutative kinematics", using the point process theory. This viewpoint allows to generalize and modify the space process of model B in a simple manner, obtaining a new model (model C). This new model allows the recovery of non-relativistic quantum mechanics in a suitable limit.

Simple models exhibiting spontaneous symmetry breakdown in classical and non-relativistic quantum mechanics

Rodrigo Muñoz-Vega, Alberto García-Quiroz, Ernesto López-Chávez +1 more

First, the properties of a classical model of spontaneous symmetry breakdown are analyzed. Then, the pros and cons of some pedagogical non-relativistic quantum-mechanical models, also used to illustrate spontaneous symmetry breakdown, are discussed. Finally, a simple quantum-mechanical toy model (a spinor on the line, with a spin-dependent interaction) is presented, that exhibits the spontaneous breaking of an internal symmetry.

An Information Ontology for the Process Algebra Model of Non-Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

William Sulis

The process algebra model has been suggested as an alternative mathematical framework for non-relativistic quantum mechanics (NRQM). It appears to reproduce the wave functions of non-relativistic quantum mechanics to a high degree of accuracy. It posits a fundamental level of finite, discrete events upon which the usual entities of NRQM supervene. It has been suggested that the process algebra model provides a true completion of NRQM, free of divergences and paradoxes, with causally local information propagation, contextuality, and realism. Arguments in support of these claims have been mathematical. Missing has been an ontology of this fundamental level from which the formalism naturally emerges. In this paper, it is argued that information and information flow provides this ontology. Higher level constructs such as energy, momentum, mass, spacetime, are all emergent from this fundamental level.
