A Study on The Emerging Technology of Quantum Computing Poses Threat to Cybersecurity

Harigovind J Kartha Kartha

ABSTRACT The paper examines the rise of quantum computing and its implications for cybersecurity. Quantum computers, unlike classical ones, use principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to solve complex problems exponentially faster. This poses a threat to existing cryptographic systems, especially those based on public-key encryption like RSA and ECC, which could be vulnerable to quantum algorithms such as Shor’s algorithm. The document highlights the potential for quantum computing to break current encryption methods, putting sensitive data at risk from cybercriminals. To mitigate these risks, researchers are developing post-quantum cryptography and exploring quantum-resistant security measures, such as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), to protect data in a future quantum-powered landscape. The paper emphasizes the urgency of updating encryption and cybersecurity strategies to prepare for the impending "quantum era." keywords Quantum computer Cyber security Cryptography Algorithm Digital signature Post-quantum cryptography Quantum key distribution Cyber attack Digital infrastructure Quantum mechanism Legacy systems Quantum era

An Approach of Privacy-Preserved PQC-based Cyber-threat Intelligence System

Yu-Jen Chen, Tzu‐Wei Lin, Chung‐Wei Kuo +1 more

Cyber-attacks have become high frequency and various events in daily life, which forces organizations changing cyber defense strategy. In order to prevent and defense attacks in time, organizations have to obtain outsourcing information, and sharing cyber-threat intelligence can provide organizations ability to defend ongoing or potential cyber-attacks. However, security and privacy of organizations should be noticed because cyber-threat intelligence is a kind of sensitive data for organizations. We design a privacy-preserved post-quantum cryptosystem-based cyber-threat intelligence system which can not only achieve important security features but resist attacks from quantum computers because of applying post-quantum computing. Moreover, blockchain is utilized to provide backtracking or checking records.
