Quantum-Inspired Evolutionary Algorithms (QIEAs) represent a novel fusion of quantum computing principles and classical evolutionary strategies, offering a powerful approach to solving complex optimization problems. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview, detailing foundational concepts, implementation techniques, and potential applications of QIEAs. By leveraging quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement, QIEAs enhance the exploitation and exploration capabilities of traditional evolutionary algorithms (EAs), thus enabling an efficient search of vast solution spaces. The study examines key components of QIEA, including quantum encoding, rotation gates, and entanglement operations, and compares its performance with classical EAs. By analyzing real-life examples of combinatorial optimization problems (COPs) such as the minimum spanning tree (MST), traveling salesman problem (TSP), and graph coloring, the chapter demonstrates QIEA’s superior efficiency and solution quality. Despite implementation challenges, QIEA shows promise in various domains, including machine learning, finance, healthcare, telecommunications, and e-commerce. Future research directions are outlined, emphasizing the need for simplified quantum-inspired operators, hybrid quantum-classical systems, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This chapter highlights the transformative potential of QIEA, setting the stage for further advancements and applications in optimization and computational efficiency.

Quantum computing and evolutionary algorithms are collaborating and combining to create a new era of computational problem-solving. Natural-selection-based evolution algorithms have demonstrated efficacy in optimizing complicated systems by iteratively improving solutions. However, quantum computing offers an entirely novel technique to handle information using superposition and entanglement, potentially accelerating optimization procedures. This study examines the theoretical underpinnings and practical implications of recent developments in quantum-enhanced evolutionary algorithms. A unique case study on 5G networks demonstrates the application of these methods to optimization problems in next-generation communication systems. We also emphasize their influence in fields where quantum-assisted evolutionary techniques spur innovation, such as financial modeling, bioinformatics, machine learning, and cryptography. Despite their revolutionary promise, several obstacles remain, such as the scalability of quantum hardware, noise sensitivity, and converting conventional evolutionary mechanisms to quantum frameworks. Developing hybrid quantum-classical and novel optimization approaches will be crucial in advancing artificial intelligence, data analytics, and decision-making systems. The author combines quantum computing with evolutionary principles to explain an advanced computational framework that has diverse scientific concepts as well as industrial applications.

The increasing interest, in the last two decades, of evolutionary computation community in the combination of quantum computing and evolutionary computing, has led to the definition of a novel class of quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithms which exploit the concepts of quantum bits and quantum gates with the aim of improving the efficiency of current optimization methods. In this paper, a new method which hybridizes differential evolution with quantum computing is proposed. The method consists of two phases. In the first phase, it performs a new quantum-inspired evolutionary method until it does not get stuck into a local optimum, then, in the second phase, it runs differential evolution by using as initial population that obtained at the end of the first phase. Experiments on classical benchmark functions show that the hybridization outperforms standard methods by sensibly improving the fitness value and speeding up the convergence process.
This paper investigates the application of quantum-inspired techniques to enhance the performance of evolutionary algorithms (EAs) for solving complex optimization problems. Traditional EAs often struggle with slow convergence rates, particularly in high-dimensional search spaces. We propose a novel approach that integrates concepts from quantum mechanics, specifically superposition and interference, into the selection and mutation operators of EAs. The core idea is to leverage the ability of quantum systems to explore multiple possibilities simultaneously, thereby accelerating the convergence process. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this hybrid algorithm through theoretical analysis and illustrate its potential through detailed mathematical formulations. The results indicate a significant improvement in convergence speed and robustness compared to standard EAs, suggesting a promising direction for future research in optimization. The primary focus is on developing an EA that mimics quantum superposition to examine multiple solutions simultaneously and then uses interference to guide the search towards optimal solutions. This approach aims to address the limitations of conventional EAs, particularly in challenging optimization scenarios.
