Abstract

In this work, we investigate the effects of correlated disorder on the quantum Heisenberg spin chain. The exchange couplings between adjacent spins are modeled as a disordered distribution with inverse linear correlation function controlled by a parameter 𝛾. The Cholesky decomposition method is employed to generate the spin-spin coupling that adheres to this correlation structure. By analyzing the autocorrelation function, we observe the influence of the correlation parameter 𝛾 on the decay behavior of the autocorrelation. Furthermore, we study the eigenstates of the Hamiltonian in the one-magnon subspace and calculate the density of states and the participation ratio, providing insights into the localization properties of the system. Our findings suggest that introducing correlated disorder significantly alters the physical properties of the spin chain, which could have implications for understanding disordered quantum systems and developing state transfer protocols with reasonable fidelity.

From Thermalization to Multifractality: Spin-Spin Correlation in Disordered $SU(2)$-Invariant 1D Heisenberg Spin Chains

Debasmita Giri, Julian Siegl, John Schliemann

We investigate spin correlations in one-dimensional $SU(2)$-invariant Heisenberg chains with exchange disorder for spin lengths $S=1/2$ and $S=1$. In the weak-disorder regime, the eigenmodes of the spin-spin correlation matrix are delocalized, consistent with ergodic behavior. Under strong disorder, the system enters a quasi-localized multifractal phase characterized by exponentially decaying, dimer-like spin correlations. Finite-size scaling of the inverse participation ratios of the correlation-matrix eigenmodes yields a correlation dimension, $D_2\approx 0.37-0.39$, confirming the stability of a multifractal regime that is distinct from both the ergodic limit ($D_2=1$) and the fully localized limit ($D_2=0$).

Effects of autocorrelated disorder on the dynamics in the vicinity of the many-body localization transition

Isaías Vallejo-Fabila, Eduardo Jonathan Torres-Herrera

The presence of frozen uncorrelated random on-site potential in interacting quantum systems can induce a transition from an ergodic phase to a localized one, the so-called many-body localization. Here we numerically study the effects of autocorrelated disorder on the static and dynamical properties of a one-dimensional many-body quantum system which exhibits many-body localization. Specifically, by means of some standard measures of energy level repulsion and localization of energy eigenstates, we show that a strong degree of correlations between the on-site potentials in the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg model leads to suppression of the many-body localization phase, while level repulsion is mitigated for small disorder strengths, although energy eigenstates remain well extended. Our findings are also remarkably manifested in the time domain, on which we put the main emphasis, as shown by the time evolution of experimentally relevant observables, like the return probability and the spin autocorrelation function.

Spin correlation functions in random-exchange s = 1/2 XXZ chains

Heinrich Röder, Joachim Stolze, Richard N. Silver +1 more

The decay of (disorder-averaged) static spin correlation functions at T = 0 for the one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ antiferromagnet with uniform longitudinal coupling J ∆ and random transverse coupling Jλi is investigated by numerical calculations for ensembles of finite chains. At ∆ = 0 (XX model) the calculation is based on the Jordan-Wigner mapping to free lattice fermions for chains with up to N = 100 sites. At ∆ ̸ = 0 Lanczos diagonalizations are carried out for chains with up to N = 22 sites. The longitudinal correlation function 〈Sz 0Sz r 〉 is found to exhibit a power-law decay with an exponent that varies with ∆ and, for nonzero ∆, also with the width of the λi-distribution. The results for the transverse correlation function 〈S x 0 Sx r 〉 show a crossover from power-law decay to exponential decay as the exchange disorder is turned on. 1 Typeset using REVTEXThe combination of randomness and quantum fluctuations is well-known to be a fertile ground for interesting physical phenomena including Anderson localization. In onedimensional (1D) tight-binding systems the rule is that disorder always leads to localization. However, if the randomness is purely off-diagonal, the localization length diverges at the band center, 1 which is bound to affect the decay law of correlation functions. One particular off-diagonally disordered fermion model, the 1D half-filled tight-binding model with random hopping, is equivalent to the special XX case ( ∆ = 0) of the 1D s = 1/2 XXZ model with random transverse exchange coupling, described by the Hamiltonian H = J ∑

Magnon Localization in One-Dimensional Disordered XYZ Heisenberg Ferromagnets

É. P. Nakhmedov, É. P. Nakhmedov, M. Alp +2 more

Disordered one-dimensional XYZ Heisenberg ferromagnets with substitutional impurities are studied. The substitutional spins give rise to a random distribution of the exchange couplings. By introducing a new transformation for spin operators, the XYZ Heisenberg Hamiltonian can be exactly diagonalized and expressed by Bose operators. Being restricted by the spin wave approximation, the Hamiltonian obtained is shown to be similar to the Anderson Hamiltonian for electronic systems. We have shown that the magnon localization should be destroyed at the middle of the band due to the effects of commensurability of the magnon wavelength and lattice constant. The magnon density of states and the localization length are shown to have singularities at the middle of the band irrespective of the strength of disorder. The middle of the magnon band can be reached not only by changing the magnon energy but also by varying the external magnetic field which facilitates the observation of the phenomenon.

Magnon delocalization in ferromagnetic chains with long-range correlated disorder

R. P. A. Lima, M. L. Lyra, Elton Malta Nascimento +1 more

We study one-magnon excitations in a random ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with long-range correlations in the coupling constant distribution. By employing an exact diagonalization procedure, we compute the localization length of all one-magnon states within the band of allowed energies E. The random distribution of coupling constants was assumed to have a power spectrum decaying as $S(k)\ensuremath{\propto}{1/k}^{\ensuremath{\alpha}}.$ We found that for $\ensuremath{\alpha}<1,$ one-magnon excitations remain exponentially localized with the localization length $\ensuremath{\xi}$ diverging as $1/E.$ For $\ensuremath{\alpha}=1$ a faster divergence of $\ensuremath{\xi}$ is obtained. For any $\ensuremath{\alpha}>1,$ a phase of delocalized magnons emerges at the bottom of the band. We characterize the scaling behavior of the localization length on all regimes and relate it with the scaling properties of the long-range correlated exchange coupling distribution.
