Quantum speed limit and optimal control of many-boson dynamics

Ioannis Brouzos, Alexej I. Streltsov, Antonio Negretti +4 more

We apply the concept of quantum speed limit (QSL)---the minimal time needed to perform a driven evolution---to complex interacting many-body systems where the effects of interactions have to be taken into account. We introduce a general strategy to eliminate the detrimental effects of the interparticle repulsion and drive the system at the QSL by applying a compensating control pulse (CCP). To prove the principles we consider a prototypical many-body system, a bosonic Josephson junction, and investigate a transfer of atoms from the ground state of one well to the ground state of the neighboring well, at increasing levels of complexity---from a textbook two-level approximation to full many-body treatment. By tracing the efficiency of the CCP protocol we show that the driven dynamics does follow the geodetic pathway and, therefore, it is optimal. The CCP strategy, applicable for a general interacting quantum many-body system with strong driving, can be of a practical relevance for the experimental implementation of quantum technology protocols, as quantum simulations or matter-wave metrology.

Optimal Control-Assisted Rapid Quantum State Transfer on 1-D Spin Chain

Kai Zhang, Sen Kuang

Traditional many-body teleportation relies on the strong interaction property of a quantum many-body system, which usually requires numerous qubits and entanglement resources, making it difficult to realize experimentally. A natural scheme is to use a 1D spin chain with simple structure to realize many-body teleportation. In this paper, we analyze the conditions for general quantum many-body teleportation and construct an effective control Hamiltonian, realizing quantum many-body teleportation on the controlled 1D spin chain. Our scheme, which only requires forward evolution and local measurements, can be used to perform quantum state transfer without the special presetting and modulation of coupling parameters of the chain and without strict control over the evolution time, thereby enhancing the experimental realizability. Furthermore, we improve the efficiency and accuracy of quantum state transfer by introducing quantum optimal control (QOC) technique to optimize the control pulse sequences.

State preparation in a Jaynes-Cummings lattice with quantum optimal control

Prabin Parajuli, Anuvetha Govindarajan, Lin Tian

High-fidelity preparation of quantum states in an interacting many-body system is often hindered by the lack of knowledge of such states and by limited decoherence times. Here, we study a quantum optimal control (QOC) approach for fast generation of quantum ground states in a finite-sized Jaynes-Cummings lattice with unit filling. Our result shows that the QOC approach can generate quantum many-body states with high fidelity when the evolution time is above a threshold time, and it can significantly outperform the adiabatic approach. We study the dependence of the threshold time on the parameter constraints and the connection of the threshold time with the quantum speed limit. We also show that the QOC approach can be robust against control errors. Our result can lead to advances in the application of the QOC to many-body state preparation.
