Dev Gurung, Shiva Raj Pokhrel, Gang Li

With the emerging developments of the Metaverse, a virtual world where people can interact, socialize, play, and conduct their business, it has become critical to ensure that the underlying systems are transparent, secure, and trustworthy. To this end, we develop a decentralized and trustworthy quantum federated learning (QFL) framework. The proposed QFL leverages the power of blockchain to create a secure and transparent system that is robust against cyberattacks and fraud. In addition, the decentralized QFL system addresses the risks associated with a centralized server-based approach. With extensive experiments and analysis, we evaluate classical federated learning (CFL) and QFL in a distributed setting and demonstrate the practicality and benefits of the proposed design. Our theoretical analysis and discussions develop a genuinely decentralized financial system essential for the Metaverse. Furthermore, we present the application of blockchain-based QFL in a hybrid metaverse powered by a metaverse observer and world model. Our implementation details and code are publicly available 1.

When Quantum Federated Learning Meets Blockchain in 6G Networks

Dinh C. Nguyen, Md Bokhtiar Al Zami, Ratun Rahman +3 more

Quantum federated learning (QFL) is emerging as a key enabler for intelligent, secure, and privacy-preserving model training in next-generation 6G networks. By leveraging the computational advantages of quantum devices, QFL offers significant improvements in learning efficiency and resilience against quantum-era threats. However, future 6G environments are expected to be highly dynamic, decentralized, and data-intensive, which necessitates moving beyond traditional centralized federated learning frameworks. To meet this demand, blockchain technology provides a decentralized, tamper-resistant infrastructure capable of enabling trustless collaboration among distributed quantum edge devices. This paper presentsQFLchain, a novel framework that integrates QFL with blockchain to support scalable and secure 6G intelligence. In this work, we investigate four key pillars ofQFLchainin the 6G context: 1) communication and consensus overhead; 2) scalability and storage overhead; 3) energy inefficiency; and 4) security vulnerability. A case study is also presented, demonstrating potential advantages ofQFLchain, based on simulation, over state-of-the-art approaches in terms of training performance.

Performance Analysis and Design of a Weighted Personalized Quantum Federated Learning

Dev Gurung, Shiva Raj Pokhrel

Advances in federated and quantum computing have improved data privacy and efficiency in distributed systems. Quantum federated learning (QFL), like its classical counterpart, classic federated learning (CFL), struggles with challenges in heterogeneous environments. To address these, we proposewp-QFL, a weighted personalized approach with quantum federated averaging (qFedAvg), tackling non-IID data and local model drift. While CFL personalization has been well explored, its application to QFL remains underdeveloped due to inherent differences. The proposedwp-QFLfills this gap by adapting to data heterogeneity with weighted personalization and drift correction. The code implementation is available athttps://github.com/s222416822/wpQFL.

In the rapidly evolving domain of vehicular metaverse, this study introduces a cutting-edge quantum-based decentralized and heterogeneity-aware federated learning framework for vehicular metaverse named QV-FEDCOM, which stands as a testament to the innovative fusion of quantum computing principles with federated learning (FL). This framework is ingeniously tailored to address the challenges in a vehicular metaverse, offering a cost-efficient and adaptive solution for the dynamic vehicular landscape. QV-FEDCOM is strengthened by key components like quantum sequential-training-program, with reinforcement learning-based dynamic mode switching to reduce communication costs and manage vehicle states adaptively, and the quantum vehicle-context-grouping utilizing hierarchical clustering and simulated annealing for effective vehicle grouping based on contextual data similarity, addressing the complexities of data heterogeneity. Additionally, the integration of quantum-inspired principal component analysis (Q-PCA) enhances memory efficiency, further optimizing the framework. These elements converge in the QV-FEDCOM algorithm, establishing a decentralized, efficient, and context-aware quantum federated learning (QFL) process that redefines learning dynamics in the vehicular metaverse. Our study also introduces an innovative quantum trajectory loss (QTL) function, specifically designed for trajectory prediction tasks, which combines the Huber loss with an angular deviation penalty to robustly handle errors and penalize large deviations in the predicted trajectory angle. The effectiveness of the QV-FEDCOM framework is rigorously validated through comprehensive simulations, with its performance meticulously compared against various adaptations, showcasing its transformative capabilities within the vehicular metaverse ecosystem.
