Quantum-Centric Supercomputing and Quantum Tunnelling in Mitochondrial Bioenergetics: An Expanded Academic Review of Biomolecular Simulation Milestones and Photonic Bio-Quantum Horizons (Vol-III)

Syed Muntasir Mamun

This academic review synthesizes the methodological breakthrough of the May 2026 quantum-centric supercomputing (QCSC) milestone, which utilized the Embedded Wave Function (EWF) and Trimmed Sample-based Quantum Diagonalization (TrimSQD) algorithmic framework to achieve coupled-cluster-level accuracy in simulating protein-ligand complexes exceeding 12,000 atoms. This unprecedented computational capability provides the rigorous analytical foundation for quantum biology, specifically validating the indispensable role of quantum tunnelling in mitochondrial bioenergetics. Atomistic calculations confirm that electron tunnelling in Respiratory Complex III is governed by highly optimized superexchange pathways and conformational gating. Concurrently, mathematical modelling using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation demonstrates that proton tunnelling through Complex I substantially reduces the required Mamun, SM (2026) ……………………………….1 Quantum-Centric Supercomputing and Quantum Tunnelling in Mitochondrial Bioenergetics: An Expanded Academic Review of Biomolecular Simulation Milestones and Photonic Bio-Quantum Horizons (Vol-III) K S C thermal activation energy for chemiosmosis by up to 45%, a finding supported by real-time optical detection using bio-nanoantennae. Monolithic semiconductor chips as a source for broadband wavelength-multiplexed polarization entangled photons

Dongpeng Kang, Ankita Anirban, Amr Saher Helmy

Generating entangled photons from a monolithic chip is a major milestone towards real-life applications of optical quantum information processing including quantum key distribution and quantum computing. Ultrabroadband entangled photons are of particular interest to various applications such as quantum metrology and multi-party entanglement distribution. In this work, we demonstrate the direct generation of broadband wavelength-multiplexed polarization entangled photons from a semiconductor chip for the first time. Without the use of any off-chip compensation or interferometry, entangled photons with a signal-idler separation as large as 95 nm in the telecom band were observed. The highest concurrence of 0.98±0.01 achieved in this work is also the highest, to the best of our knowledge, comparing to all previously demonstrated semiconductor waveguide sources. This work paves the way for fully integrated, ultrabroadband sources of polarization entangled photons.
