Abstract

Binary classification is one of the important tasks in machine learning, with wide applications in various fields, including agriculture and food processing. This study compares the performance of the classical Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) in wheat grain classification, focusing on accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and Area Under the Curve (AUC). The wheat grain dataset consists of physical features relevant to distinguish between two types of grains. The analysis results show that QSVM significantly outperforms classical SVM in all measured metrics, with higher accuracy and a better balance between precision and recall. The superiority of QSVM can be attributed to its ability to handle complex feature interactions and accelerate the training process through quantum algorithms. These findings demonstrate the potential of QSVM as a more effective model for binary classification applications. However, factors such as implementation complexity and availability of quantum computing resources need to be considered. This study provides valuable insights for the development of more efficient classification methods in the context of agriculture and other related fields. Keywords: Quantum Machine Learning, Quantum Support Vector Machine, Classification, Seeds

IMPLEMENTASI QSVM DALAM KLASIFIKASI BINER PADA KASUS KANKER PROSTAT

Nur Amalina Rahmaputri Hilmy, Muhamad Akrom

Quantum Machine Learning (QML) is increasingly attracting attention as a potential solution to improve computational performance, especially in handling complex and big data-driven classification tasks. In this study, the Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) algorithm is applied to prostate cancer classification, with the results compared to the classical Support Vector Machine (SVM) model. QSVM shows superiority in accuracy, reaching 0.93, compared to the classical SVM which has an accuracy of 0.91. In addition, QSVM produces precision, recall, and F1-score values of 0.83, 0.95, and 0.88, respectively, higher than the precision of 0.82, recall of 0.93, and F1-score of 0.87 of the classical SVM. These findings indicate that QSVM is more effective in handling high-dimensional data and complex classification, thus demonstrating the great potential of QML in medical applications, especially in cancer classification and biomarker discovery. Keywords: Quantum Machine Learning, Quantum Support Vector Machine, Klasifikasi, Kanker Prostat

Overcoming SVM Limitations in Lung Cancer Classification with Quantum Machine Learning

Achraf Toufah, Mohamed Achraf Kadim, Moulay Youssef El Hafidi

Abstract In this study, we compare the performance of classical Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Quantum Support Vector Machines (QSVM) on binary classification tasks, using 149 balanced datasets derived from a lung cancer diagnosis dataset. Each dataset consists of 120 samples and 12 features. Our primary objective is to evaluate whether QSVM provides measurable advantages over SVM, particularly in low-performing scenarios. To this end, we identified the 15 datasets where classical SVM exhibited the lowest F1-scores and conducted a focused comparative analysis. Results show that, in these challenging cases, QSVM achieved an average recall improvement of 99% over SVM, without compromising precision. This substantial gain in recall also led to a corresponding 48% increase in F1-score, on average. Statistical analysis using a normality test followed by a paired t-test confirmed the significance of these results. These findings suggest that QSVM can serve as a valuable alternative in situations where classical models struggle, especially when high recall is critical for early cancer detection.

Comparative Performance Analysis of SVM and QSVM in Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Gita Kartika, Muhamad Akrom

The application of machine learning has shown significant progress in various fields, including clinical data classification. This study presents a comparative analysis between the classical Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) for breast cancer classification using the Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer (WDBC) dataset. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied as dimension reduction strategy across three configurations (PCA = 2, PCA = 4, and PCA = 6) to evaluate the sensitivity of both models to the feature space dimension. Preprocessing included log1p transformation on 22 skewed features, Manual SMOTE balancing, and MinMaxScaler normalization. SVM was optimized via GridSearchCV (80 parameter combinations, cv = 5), while QSVM employed a ZZFeatureMap quantum kernel (reps = 2, entanglement = full) on qasm_simulator. Experimental results demonstrate that SVM achieved superior accuracy across all configurations, with peak performance at PCA = 6 (Accuracy= 98.83%, AUC = 0.9985, Specificity = 1.0000, Sensitivity = 0.9688, Precision = 1.0000, NPV = 0.9817, and F1-score for malignant = 0.98). QSVM achieved its highest accuracy at PCA = 4 (92.98%), AUC = 0.9622, Sensitivity = 0.9219, Precision = 0.8939, NPV = 0.9524, and F1-score for malignant = 0.91. Across the three PCA configurations, QSVM exhibited a non-monotonic relationship between PCA dimensions and quantum kernel performance . These findings provide a quantitative benchmark for comparing quantum and classical machine learning in breast cancer diagnosis.

Enhancing Crop Recommendation Accuracy using Quantum Support Vector Machines on Complex Agricultural Datasets

Varun S, Abirami S

Crop recommendation systems are very important in sustainable agriculture and yield optimization. Most of the traditional machine learning algorithms, such as SVM, do not work well on datasets for which there is a strong nonlinear relationship between the features such as soil parameters, climatic conditions and labels of crops. In this paper, we investigate the performance difference between classical SVM and Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) when trained with highly complex, non-linear agriculture dataset. A synthetic non-linear dataset was constructed to mimic challenging real-world agriculture patterns, and is used to evaluate both the models fairly. Experimental results shows that classical SVM struggles to model deep feature dependencies, while QSVM significantly outperforms it by 10% increase in the accuracy due to the advantage of quantum feature encoding and high-dimensional Hilbert space mapping. This paper illustrates the potential benefits of quantum machine learning in different agricultural applications and indicates the advantages of quantum-enhanced models when dealing with challenging data sets.

Penerapan Quantum Machine Learning Untuk Klasifikasi Ulasan Asli Dan Palsu Pada Amazon

Krisna Putri Telaumbanua, Sunneng Sandino Berutu, Aninda Astuti

Classifying product reviews on e-commerce platforms, both real and fake, requires a model that can effectively represent text data patterns. This study aims to compare the performance of several Quantum Machine Learning methods, namely QNN, QSVC, and Hybrid Quantum kernel and Classical SVM, in classifying Amazon product reviews. The study uses a quantitative approach with a computational experimental design. Review data is represented using TF-IDF, standardized, and reduced in dimension with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) before being transformed into quantum feature space. Performance evaluation is carried out using accuracy, precision, recall, F1-Score, and MCC metrics. The experimental results show that QNN achieved the best performance with an accuracy value of 85,63%, an F1-Score of 0.9130, and an MCC of 0.5608, while QSVC and the hybrid approach achieved an accuracy of 83.23% with an MCC of 0.4331. These results indicate that QNN has more balanced classification performance. Keywords: Quantum Neural Network; Fake Review Detection; Amazon Reviews; Natural Language Processing; Quantum Machine Learning.
