We solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation describing a generalized harmonic oscillator in the coordinate representation with constant mass but time-dependent stiffness and correlation parameters. Exact solutions are obtained in terms of confluent hypergeometric functions or parabolic cylinder functions. The dynamics of mean energy is studied in several different regimes, including the special case of imaginary correlation parameter, corresponding to the non-Hermitian Ahmed–Swanson model. In this case, real time-dependent mean values of the Hamiltonian are obtained by using dual wave functions, evolving according to the time-dependent Schrödinger equations with the given Hamiltonian and its Hermitially conjugated partner. The adiabatic evolution is considered as one of examples.

In this work we intend to study a class of time-dependent quantum systems with non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, particularly those whose Hermitian counterpart are important for the comprehension of posed problems in quantum optics and quantum chemistry, which consists of an oscillator with time-dependent mass and frequency under the action of a time-dependent imaginary potential. The propagator for a general time-dependence of the parameters and the wave-functions are obtained explicitly for constant frequency and mass and a linear time-dependence in the potential. The wave-functions are used to obtain the expectation value of the Hamiltonian. Although it is neither Hermitian nor PT symmetric, the case under study exhibits real values of energy.
By applying the standard analytical techniques of solving partial differential equations, we have obtained the exact solution in terms of the Fourier sine series to the time-dependent Schrödinger equation describing a quantum one-dimensional harmonic oscillator of time-dependent frequency confined in an infinite square well with the two walls moving along some parametric trajectories. Based upon the orthonormal basis of quasi-stationary wave functions, the exact propagator of the system has also been analytically derived. Special cases like (i) a confined free particle, (ii) a confined time-independent harmonic oscillator, and (iii) an aging oscillator are examined, and the corresponding time-dependent wave functions are explicitly determined. Besides, the approach has been extended to solve the case of a confined generalized time-dependent harmonic oscillator for some parametric moving boundaries as well.
The time-dependent Schrödinger equation describing a generalized two-dimensional quantum parametric oscillator in the presence of time-variable external fields is solved using the evolution operator method. For this, the evolution operator is found as a product of exponential operators through the Wei–Norman Lie algebraic approach. Then, the propagator and time-evolution of eigenstates and coherent states are derived explicitly in terms of solutions to the corresponding system of coupled classical equations of motion. In addition, using the evolution operator formalism, we construct linear and quadratic quantum dynamical invariants that provide connection of the present results with those obtained via the Malkin–Man’ko–Trifonov and the Lewis–Riesenfeld approaches. Finally, as an exactly solvable model, we introduce a Cauchy–Euler type quantum oscillator with increasing mass and decreasing frequency in time-dependent magnetic and electric fields. Based on the explicit results for the uncertainties and expectations, squeezing properties of the wave packets and their trajectories in the two-dimensional configuration space are discussed according to the influence of the time-variable parameters and external fields.
The generalized time-dependent harmonic oscillator is studied. Though several approaches to the solution of this model have been available, yet a new approach is presented here, which is very suitable for the study of cyclic solutions and geometric phases. In this approach, finding the time evolution operator for the Schrödinger equation is reduced to solving an ordinary differential equation for a c-number vector which moves on a hyperboloid in a three-dimensional space. Cyclic solutions do not exist for all time intervals. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of cyclic solutions is given. There may exist some particular time interval in which all solutions with definite parity, or even all solutions are cyclic. Criteria for the appearance of such cases are given. The known relation that the nonadiabatic geometric phase for a cyclic solution is proportional to the classical Hannay angle is reestablished. However, this is valid only for special cyclic solutions. For more general ones, the nonadiabatic geometric phase may contain an extra term. Several cases with relatively simple Hamiltonians are solved and discussed in detail. Cyclic solutions exist in most cases. The pattern of the motion, say, finite or infinite, cannot be simply determined by the nature of the Hamiltonian (elliptic or hyperbolic, etc.). For a Hamiltonian with a definite nature, the motion can change from one pattern to another, that is, some kind of phase transition may occur, if some parameter in the Hamiltonian goes through some critical value.
The temporal evolution of the state vector relative to a harmonic oscillator with time-dependent frequency is examined. The Schrödinger equation is solved by choosing the instantaneous eigenstates of the Hamiltonian as the basis, thus getting an infinite set of coupled linear differential equations. This formulation is particularly suitable for studying the cases in which the Hamiltonian undergoes a very slow or a sudden variation from an initial constant value into a final one. A rigorous proof of adiabatic invariance to all orders in the slowness parameter is given for the transition probabilities. An application to the evolution of an initially coherent state is made.
In this study, we discuss the harmonic oscillator with the time-dependent frequency, ω(t), and the mass, M(t), by generalizing the holomorphic coordinates for the harmonic oscillator. In general cases, we solve the Schrödinger equation by reducing it into the Riccati equation and discuss the uncertainties for the quasi-coherent states of the time-dependent harmonic oscillator. In special cases, we find the following results: First, for a time-dependent harmonic oscillator, if [ω(t)M(t)] is constant, then the coherent states will evolve as the coherent states. Second, for the driven harmonic oscillator, the coherent states will evolve as the coherent states with new eigenvalues. Third, we derive quasi-coherent states for the Caldirola–Kanai Hamiltonian and show that the product of uncertainties, ΔxΔp, is larger than minimum value; however, it is constant. We also discuss the classical equations of motion for the system.
