Abstract

This article explores the convergence of quantum cognition and Ayurveda, two seemingly disparate realms that offer intriguing parallels and potential synergies. Quantum cognition, drawing from principles of quantum mechanics, offers a novel perspective on human decision-making and information processing, while Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, provides a holistic framework for understanding health and well-being. Despite their distinct origins, both disciplines recognize the complexity and interconnectedness of human experience, challenging reductionist approaches to understanding the mind and body. By integrating insights from quantum cognition into Ayurvedic principles, new perspectives on the mind–body connection and approaches to health and wellness emerge. This synthesis offers potential for scientific investigation, holistic healing methodologies, and societal change, providing insights into unraveling mental complexities and cultivating a balanced relationship with ourselves and the environment.

MODERN PHYSICS AND INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS: AN INQUIRY INTO CONVERGING REALITIES

Narayan Gaonkar, R. G. Vaidya

In this chapter, the review of the profound conceptual resonances and intriguing parallels observed between the discoveries in modern physics and the insights embedded within Indian knowledge systems are presented. This study meticulously highlights the core ideas of disparate domains regardless of the fundamentally distinct methodologies employed. The scientific pursuit of the unity of existence, the intrinsically dynamic nature of reality and the elusive and observer-dependent nature of reality at the quantum level are explored. A comprehensive investigation of key scientific and philosophical concepts, supplemented by illustrative Sanskrit shlokas from foundational texts of Indian knowledge systems foster an interdisciplinary analogue between two rich traditions. It suggests that despite their different starting points and methods, both modern science and ancient wisdom traditions converge upon remarkably similar profound conclusions about the fundamental nature of reality. Ultimately, this exploration aims to contribute to holistic and integrated worldview, combining scientific knowledge with timeless spiritual insights.

Quantum Cognition: Exploring the Interface Between Quantum Computing Principles and Human Information Processing

Troublefield, Troy

The emergence of quantum computing has prompted researchers to examine potential parallels between quantum mechanical principles and human cognitive processes. This article explores the theoretical framework of quantum cognition, examining how concepts from quantum mechanics, including superposition, entanglement, and measurement, might inform our understanding of human decision-making, memory, and consciousness. While quantum computing operates on fundamentally different physical principles than biological neural networks, the mathematical formalisms of quantum mechanics offer novel perspectives on cognitive phenomena that classical probability theory struggles to explain. This review critically examines the current state of quantum cognition research, its applications in computational modeling, and the ongoing debates regarding the validity of quantum mechanical analogies in psychological theory. The analysis reveals both promising theoretical insights and significant limitations in applying quantum principles to human cognition, highlighting the need for empirical validation and careful distinction between mathematical analogy and physical reality.

Quantum Information Processing in Human Cognition: Bridging Quantum Phenomena, Neural Dynamics, and Decision‐Making

Hamidreza Namazi, Arvindhan M, Helena Chytilova +1 more

ABSTRACT Recent advances at the intersection of quantum physics, neuroscience, and cognitive science have renewed interest in whether quantum phenomena and quantum‐inspired formalisms can inform models of human cognition and decision‐making. While classical neural and computational models explain many aspects of perception and behavior, they face limitations in accounting for contextuality, order effects, probabilistic reasoning violations, ambiguity resolution, and rapid information integration. This review synthesizes evidence and theoretical frameworks linking quantum‐related principles to cognition, with emphasis on quantum sensing in biological systems, molecular and subcellular quantum‐relevant mechanisms, quantum‐to‐classical transition pathways, quantum‐inspired models of perception and decision‐making, and quantum‐inspired computational approaches. It also extends beyond the probabilistic arm of quantum cognition by considering emerging equilibrium‐based and causal‐logical theories, including mental equilibrium, brain‐universe similarity, mind‐light‐matter unity, quantum emergence, and quantum intelligence. Throughout, the review distinguishes physically instantiated quantum mechanisms from abstract quantum‐like formalisms that model contextuality, mental entanglement, and non‐separable cognitive dynamics without requiring sustained macroscopic quantum coherence in the brain. Finally, it identifies methodological challenges and future directions for advancing quantum cognitive science toward experimentally testable and biologically meaningful theories.

Reimagining the foundations of quantum mechanics through the lens of ancient wisdom

Jinzhi Huang, Linlin Dou, Saichao Chang

Quantum mechanics has been the most profound scientific revolution of the twentieth century, fundamentally challenging classical conceptions of the continuity of the world. Through quantization, whereby energy exists in discrete "discontinuity" packets, quantum mechanics successfully resolved the black-body radiation problem that classical physics could not explain. At the same time, it fundamentally overturned the Newtonian mechanical worldview, which was based on the principle of continuity. This essential discontinuity has opened a new phase of exploration of the universe, aligning more closely with its inherently discrete rather than continuous nature. However, this concept deeply puzzled Planck—who first proposed it—and numerous other physicists. Remarkably, this insight into the nature of reality is not the exclusive discovery of modern science. Traditional ancient wisdom has long provided similar insights—observed in the 2,500-year-old classic “Vase Analogy”—which suggests that the universe comprises frame-by-frame images rather than continuous sensory perception. This is not a mere coincidence but rather a convergence of different cognitive approaches on the same ultimate reality. Thus, quantum mechanics and ancient wisdom engaged in a profound trans-temporal dialogue. This encounter proves mutually illuminating: On the one hand, the ancient apprehension of discreteness offers a transhistorical beacon, illuminating the fundamental puzzles of quantum mechanics; on the other hand, empirical quantum evidence activates the latent scientific dimensions of ancient wisdom, underscoring its enduring epistemological vitality and contemporary relevance.

Quantum Biology and Medicine: Discovering the Secrets of Life and Healing.

Federico E. Miraglia

The interrelation between quantum physics and biology was once excluded as impossible, but it is now being reconsidered in unexpected and unprecedented ways. Quantum biology is a novel frontier of science that studies quantum effects in biological systems: Life functions and senses of perceptions appear to be mediated by quantum mechanical processes, which allow living organisms to sustain themselves and experience reality. Photosynthesis, magnetoreception, olfaction, and potentially our sense of consciousness would be possible through the weird quantum-energetic behavior of subatomic particles. Modern medicine is being impacted as well by the quantum revolution, with a shift in perspective from material particles to energy fields, in accordance with the principles of traditional medical systems, such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Homeopathy.

Quantum Emptiness: A Scientific Exploration of the Heart Sūtra

David Leong

The intricate dance between quantum mechanics and the Heart Sūtra's philosophical insights illuminates the enigmatic nature of the universe. This paper ventures into the wave-particle duality inherent in quantum mechanics and its unexpected alignments with the ancient wisdom encapsulated in the Heart Sūtra, revealing a reality not as a steadfast entity but as a spectrum of potentialities that morphs in the wake of observation. A pivotal focus is on the duality's emphasis on emptiness and existence, pushing the boundaries of conventional thought. Quantum mechanics, intriguingly, reverberates with Buddhist ideologies, especially the intertwined nature of all phenomena. This alignment finds further resonance in the Trikāya doctrine, clarifying reality at the quantum level to the observable material reality. As the exploration into the universe's depths continues, the Heart Sūtra emerges as a crucial beacon, underscoring the all-encompassing nature of existence and the transformative potential of the Prajnaparamita. This paper marries the Heart Sūtra's teachings with quantum science's revelations, bridging the ancient spiritual realm and contemporary scientific frontiers. Through this confluence of ancient wisdom and modern science, the paper offers an enriched perspective for spiritual and scientific scholars, emphasizing the intertwined fabric of reality.
