Abstract

Generation of photon pairs in time bins at telecom wavelengths is demonstrated in Photonic Crystal cavity with footprint about 70 μm2. With a pump peak power below 100 μW a pair generation rate of 1 MHz is reached with pulse repetition up to 100 MHz.

Time-bin entangled photon pair generation from Si micro-ring resonator

Ryota Wakabayashi, Mikio Fujiwara, Ken-ichiro Yoshino +3 more

We demonstrate time-bin entanglement generation in telecom wavelength using a 7 μm radius Si micro-ring resonator pumped by a continuous wave laser. The resonator structure can enhance spontaneous four wave mixing, leading to a photon pair generation rate of about 90-100 Hz with a laser pump power of as low as -3.92 dBm (0.41 mW). We succeed in observing time-bin entanglement with the visibility over 92%. Moreover, wavelength-tunability of the entangled photon pair is demonstrated by changing the operation temperature.

Cavity-enhanced narrow bandwidth photon pairs generation at the telecom wavelength with a triple resonance configuration

Zhi‐Yuan Zhou, Dong-Sheng Ding, Yan Li +3 more

In this paper, we present a narrow bandwidth source at the telecom wavelength based on type II PPKTP crystal inside an optical cavity. Simultaneous resonances of the pump and the two down-converted fields are achieved by special design of the cavity. This is a triple resonances optical parametric oscillator (OPO) far below threshold, which generates photon pairs at around 1560 nm with a bandwidth of 8 MHz. A coherence time of 27.7 ns is estimate by a time correlation measurement, and the estimated photon pairs generating rate is 134 s-1MHz-1mW-1. As entangled photon pairs in the telecom regime is suitable for long distance transmission and manipulation, this source is desirable for the demands of quantum communication.

Ultra-efficient generation of time-energy entangled photon pairs in an InGaP photonic crystal cavity

Alexandre Chopin, Andrea Barone, Inès Ghorbel +5 more

Abstract The typical approaches to generate heralded single photons rely on parametric processes, with the advantage of generating highly entangled states at the price of a random pair emission. To overcome this limit, degenerate spontaneous Four-Wave-Mixing is a reliable technique which combines two pump photons into a pair of signal and idler photons via Kerr nonlinear optical effect. By exploiting the intrinsic small confinement volume and thermally tuning the resonances of a 20 μ m-long Photonic Crystal cavity, we efficiently generate time-energy entangled photon pairs and heralded single photons at a large maximum on-chip rate of 22 MHz, using 36 μ W of pump power. We measure time-energy entanglement with net visibility up to 96.6 % using 1 second integration time constant. Our measurements demonstrate the viability of Photonic Crystal cavities to act as an alternative and efficient photon pair source for quantum photonics.

Narrowband photon pair source for quantum networks

F. Monteiro, Anthony Martin, B. Sanguinetti +2 more

We demonstrate a compact photon pair source based on a periodically poled lithium niobate nonlinear crystal in a short cavity. This approach provides efficient, low-loss, mode selection that is compatible with standard telecommunication networks. Photons with a coherence time of 8.6 ns (116 MHz) are produced and their purity is demonstrated. A source brightness of 134 pairs (s. mW. MHz)(-1) is reported. The cavity parameters are chosen such that the photon pair modes emitted can be matched to telecom ultra dense wavelength division multiplexing (U-DWDM) channel spacings. The high level of purity and compatibility with standard telecom networks is of great importance for complex quantum communication networks.
