When artificial intelligence encounters quantum computers: Laozi's “Dao” is the foundation of “token”
Ching-Ray Chang
Abstract
The interaction between artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computers is a significant area of exploration that could revolutionize technology and human understanding. Laozi's philosophy, particularly the concept of “Dao”(道), offers profound insights that can be aligned with modern AI processes, especially regarding tokenization—the decomposition of complex systems into simpler, meaningful units. The basic unit in AI is token and it is like the fundamental concepts in Laozi's Dao. Thus, we named it Daoum (道元) as the translation of token. By applying the principles of Dao, we can better grasp how AI develops from fundamental elements to more complex systems, mirroring Laozi's belief that “The Dao produces all things”. This exploration extends into the realm of quantum physics, where quantum mechanics such as superposition and entanglement represent a second wave of technological revolution comparable to the impact of the semiconductor revolution. The convergence of AI, quantum computing, and Laozi's Dao points to a future where technology mimics natural processes, accelerating the quest for knowledge and leading to deeper truths about the universe. This speech delves into these concepts, setting the stage for a holistic view of technological advancements through ancient philosophical lenses.
