About the Role of Observers in Quantum Mechanics

Abstract

In this paper we discuss about the role of observers in our four dimensional universe of the events taking place. Time is the thread which connects the fabric of our world and we believe it to be flowing from a fifth dimension. Observers in quantum mechanics resemble human observers and it seems nature has been built around our existence.

ABOUT MEASURING TIME IN QUANTUM MECHANICS

Spiros Koutandos

We discuss the possibility of a fifth dimension giving explanation for the quantum phenomena. The coordinate of the fifth dimension seems to be related to the phase of the wavefunction measuring internal time. We deduce that there are four types of time. That of the observer which is a thermal time that of the environment which is the usual mechanical time and the aforementioned internal time.

Quantum mechanics needs no consciousness (and the other way around)

Yu, Shan, Nikolić, Danko

It has been suggested that consciousness plays an important role in quantum mechanics as it is necessary for the collapse of wave function during the measurement. Furthermore, this idea has spawned a symmetrical proposal: a possibility that quantum mechanics explains the emergence of consciousness in the brain. Here we formulated several predictions that follow from this hypothetical relationship and that can be empirically tested. Some of the experimental results that are already available suggest falsification of the first hypothesis. Thus, the suggested link between human consciousness and collapse of wave function does not seem viable. We discuss the constraints implied by the existing evidence on the role that the human observer may play for quantum mechanics and the role that quantum mechanics may play in the observer's consciousness.

QUANTUM MECHANICS & THE ROLE FOR CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE PHYSICAL WORLDD

F.A. Rauscher

In this paper we will address important considerations for the structure of a physical theory and the need and implications for the conscious observer and creator. Complementarity and reciprocity are dominate in the sttucture of the Quantum \'Vorld. It is clear that one's meaningful existence directly involves one's intent and acdon both mental and physical in consequence. Hence, it is vital ro undersrand what intemional will is, the manner in which it arises, as it relates to one's ethical responsibility the meaning of their life may also be considered in the context of intentional will and may be described and understOod. We investigate the role of conscious intention in the physical and mental world. In this paper, we examine the theoretical constructs of the properties of observational intention and their local and nonlocal effects on mind and matter. One begins by sensing a physical or psychic input and then becoming consciously aware of it as perceptions and thoughts which result in concepts developed for memories, reasoning and feelings. Then a thought and decision will be made and imention are carried into action in the physical and mental world. We proceed by investigating the role and action of the thought of intentional will and its role in quantum mechanics, its structure of the theoty and manner in which it appears ro demand a role for consciousness. In order to proceed with our investigation will present some of the basic tenants of quantum mechanics, the structure of the theoty and manner in which it appears ro demand a role for consciousness in quantum measurement and its non local intentional interaction. The quantum theory gives us two inescapable conclusions: J) we are intimaly linked ro the world as participatory observers, and 2) nonlocal remote connections and interactions are shown to be parr of our world process. Discoveries, and/or creations of new concepts in physics lead ro the observer/participant issue. Quantum mechanics, the theory of atomic microcosm, is a description that may imply that the observer has an impact on the observed, that rhe observer has an effect on what is observed. The relativity theory scems to imply that the state of the observer affecrs his interpretation of what he sees. In the context of quantum theoty and relativity, we may be able to shed light on the relationship of discovery as well as creation and irs validation of the properties of an external reality. In quantum physics, as well as in the structure of n-dimensional relativistic models, the implication for a fundamental remore connection of events is deeply implied by the structure of these models and their experimental test and we can use this property for our experimental models of the properties of consciousness. The structure of physical theoty, its very fabric, is pointing towards a world view that speaks of concepts which have been considered external to the body of science but yet may be implied by modern physical theoty itself.

Quantum measurement: a game between observer and nature?

Lizhi Xin, Houwen Xin

What is the observer's role in quantum measurement? Obviously, observers prepare the apparatus, observe and interpret the measured results. Although the observer will have a certain influence on the measurement results by setting up the measuring apparatus, we don't believe human consciousness cause reducing of wave packet; also observers are certainly required to interpret the measured results with physical meanings. We believe observers build up their experience of the external world by playing games with nature, and then "decode" the nature based on their experiences. We propose a quantum decision theory approach to explain the role of the observer in quantum measurements, and pointed out that a set of quantum decision trees (strategies to answer natural questions with yes/no logic) can be optimized to deal with the challenges of nature through quantum genetic programming based on maximization of the expected value of the observers; Quantum decision trees can discover the dynamics rules of quantum entities and Just as classical mechanics uses the principle of least action to obtain the trajectories of particles, we use the principle of maximum expected value to approximately obtain the kinematic "trajectories" of quantum entities by learning from natural historical "events" (measured results); even we can "reconstruct" the past of quantum entity, because we don't know the prior information of quantum entity, it is very difficult to predict the future of the nature.

The Participating Mind in the Quantum Universe

Menas C. Kafatos, Keun‐Hang Susan Yang

The Orthodox interpretation of quantum mechanics, which followed the Copenhagen Interpretation but was enhanced by primarily Werner Heisenberg and John von Neumann into a fully developed theory, brought in, among others, the role of measurement, available choices and response of the quantum system. It is, more consistent and clear than other interpretations of quantum mechanics as it provides account of the interactions of observers with the external world. As such, the Orthodox interpretation does a lot more than just account for physical interactions in the atomic world, which was the original goal of quantum mechanics in the early part of the twentieth century. In this article we present several issues that may have been answered or need further development, such as measurement and observation, what is Nature and who the observer is.Extending Orthodox quantum mechanics, leading to universal non-dual Awareness may provide a consistent and integrated view of reality and is consistent with advances in mathematical theory. An issue of paramount importance is what are the philosophical underpinnings or ontological view of the quantum nature of the universe and the role of human minds, observations and choices.
