Abstract

It is important to distinguish between classical information and quantum information in quantum information theory. In this paper, we first extend the concept of metric-adjusted correlation measure and some related measures to non-Hermitian operators, and establish several relations between the metric-adjusted skew information with different operator monotone functions. By employing operator monotone functions, we next introduce three uncertainty matrices generated by channels: the total uncertainty matrix, the classical uncertainty matrix, and the quantum uncertainty matrix. We establish a decomposition of the total uncertainty matrix into classical and quantum parts and further investigate their basic properties. As applications, we employ uncertainty matrices to quantify the decoherence caused by the action of quantum channels on quantum states, and calculate the uncertainty matrices of some typical channels to reveal certain intrinsic features of the corresponding channels. Moreover, we establish several uncertainty relations that improve the traditional Heisenberg uncertainty relations involving variance.

Tighter sum uncertainty relations based on metric-adjusted skew information

Ruonan Ren, Ping Li, Mingfei Ye +1 more

Uncertainty principle is one of the most essential features of quantum mechanics, and it reveals the intrinsic difference that distinguishes the quantum world from the classical world. In this paper, we focus on the uncertainty relations based on metric-adjusted skew information. By making full use of the norm property, we establish an uncertainty relation for arbitrary finite $n$ observables based on metric-adjusted skew information, and we give two new uncertainty relations for arbitrary finite $N$ quantum channels based on metric-adjusted skew information. For arbitrary two observables and two channels, the uncertainty relations we give are not only better than the uncertainty relations detailed in [Quantum Inf. Process. 20, 72 (2021)], but also are the equations. The equation of the uncertainty relation is more accurate than the inequation of the usual uncertainty relation, which has important advantages in the application of quantum information technology, such as quantum communication and the quantum precision measurement. Meanwhile, our results are suitable to Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information that is a special metric-adjusted skew information and Wigner-Yanase skew information that is a special Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information. Some examples about Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information are given and show that the new lower bounds are tighter. The results play an important role in quantum information processing in this paper.

Quantifying coherence relative to channels via metric-adjusted skew information

Yuan Sun, Nan Li, Shunlong Luo

In terms of the metric-adjusted skew information (an important and versatile class of quantum Fisher information), which generalizes the seminal Wigner-Yanase skew information arising naturally from the study of quantum measurement, we propose a family of coherence measures of states relative to quantum channels, and reveal their basic properties such as unitary covariance, convexity, and monotonicity. Furthermore, we evaluate these coherence measures of states relative to several prototypical quantum channels, and make a comparative study for this family of coherence measures with relative entropy of coherence. This provides a general approach to coherence of states relative to quantum channels, which also captures decoherence on the states caused by quantum channels and asymmetry of states relative to quantum channels.

Quantification of correlations in bipartite states via metric-adjusted skew information

Yajing Fan, X. Y. Yang, L. L. Li

In this paper, we introduce a family of correlation measures relative to a local channel in terms of the metric-adjusted skew information for a global state and reveal their fundamental properties. We quantify the correlation of quantum states with respect to several typical channels, including unitary channels, twirling channels, and weak measurements, and illustrate that the correlation with respect to the twirling channel induced by the fully unitary group is consistent with that relative to the completely depolarizing channel. In particular, we further evaluate the correlations of the Bell diagonal states, Werner states, and isotropic states and make a comparative study for this family of correlation measures with different operator monotone functions of the two-qubit Werner states and isotropic states, respectively.

Non-hermitian extensions of Heisenberg type and Schrödinger type uncertainty relations

Kenjiro Yanagi, Kohei Sekikawa

In quantum mechanics it is well known that the Heisenberg-Schrödinger uncertainty relations hold for two non-commutative observables and density operator. Recently Dou and Du (J. Math. Phys. 54:103508, 2013 ; Int. J. Theor. Phys. 53:952-958, 2014 ) obtained several uncertainty relations for two non-commutative non-hermitian observables and density operators. In this paper, we show that their results can be given as corollaries of our non-hermitian extensions of Heisenberg type or Schrödinger type uncertainty relations for the generalized metric adjusted skew information or generalized metric adjusted correlation measures which were obtained in Furuichi and Yanagi (J. Math. Anal. Appl. 388:1147-1156, 2012 ).

Total, classical and quantum uncertainties generated by channels

Yizhou Liu, Shunlong Luo, Yuan Sun

States and channels are fundamental and instrumental ingredients of quantum mechanics. Their interplay not only encodes information about states but also reflects uncertainties of channels. In order to quantify intrinsic uncertainties generated by channels, we exploit the action of a channel on an orthonormal basis in the space of observables from three different perspectives. The first concerns the uncertainty generated by a channel via noncommutativity between the Kraus operators of the channel and an orthonormal basis of observables, which can be interpreted as a kind of quantifier of the total uncertainty generated by a channel. The second concerns the uncertainty in terms of the Tsallis- $$2$$ entropy of the Jamiołkowski–Choi state associated with the channel via the channel–state duality, which can be interpreted as a quantifier of the classical uncertainty generated by a channel. The third concerns the uncertainty of a channel as the deviation from the identity channel in terms of the Hilbert–Schmidt distance, which can be interpreted as a kind of quantifier of the quantum uncertainty generated by a channel. We reveal basic properties of these quantifiers of uncertainties and establish a relation between them. We identify channels producing the minimal/maximal uncertainties for these three quantifiers. Finally, we explicitly evaluate these uncertainty quantifiers for various important channels, use them to gain insights into the channels from an information-theoretic perspective, and comparatively study the quantifiers.

Quantum statistics and measures of quantum information

Frank Hansen

The geometrical formulation of quantum statistics and the theory of measures of quantum information are intimately connected by the introduction of the notion of metric adjusted skew information. We survey the area with a focus on the ‘representing operator monotone functions’. In particular, we exhibit a new order structure that renders the set of metric adjusted skew informations into a lattice with a maximal element. The Wigner–Yanase–Dyson skew informations (with parameter p) are increasing with respect to this order structure for 0 < p ≤ 1/2 and decreasing for 1/2 ≤ p < 1 with maximum in the Wigner–Yanase skew information. Introduction The geometrical formulation of quantum statistics and the theory of measures of quantum information are two distinct theories with separate motivations and histories, and for a long time they did not seem to be related in any way. Early contributions which view quantum information in statistical terms were given by Hasegawa and Petz (Hasegawa and Petz 1996), and by Luo (Luo 2003a, Luo 2003b, Luo 2005). Today the two theories are largely fused with the notion of metric (or metrically) adjusted skew information and a common set of tools and techniques involving certain operator monotone functions and their representations. The geometrical approach to statistics reveals its fundamental nature when we try to generalise classical statistics to the quantum setting. The key to obtaining quantisation of the Fisher information is to consider it as a Riemannian metric with a certain behaviour in the presence of noise.
