Quantum Techniques for Optimizing Algorithms in Natural Language Processing

Dalydas Karanath, Udai Shankar

This research paper explores how Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms can be enhanced through the use of quantum computing. Since NLP applications such as sentiment analysis, text classification, and machine translation analyze huge volumes of data, the amount of resourceconsuming work for traditional computing architectures, including large scale language models, becomes excessive. There is an opportunity for significant improvements in speed and efficiency because of the quantum properties of superposition and entanglement. This research explores the use of quantum algorithms such as Grover's search, quantum machine learning algorithms, and quantum-inspired tensor networks for alleviating computational NLP bottlenecks. The comparative study of the quantum approach against the classical method shows notable speedup in theory with an explanation of the implementation of quantum algorithms on Noisy IntermediateScale Quantum (NISQ) devices. The most promising NLP algorithm enhancement will most likely come from hybrid quantum-classical sophisticated architectures as discovered through this study, where quantum processing is applied to some components and classical processing is used for the rest of the quantum-classical NLP algorithms. This is the first research study in Quantum Natural Language Processing (QNLP) for real world NLP applications and the author is commended for their efforts.

Integrating Quantum Computing with Deep Learning for Enhanced Natural Language Processing

Anand Singh Rajawat, Hussein Mohammed Breesam, Shruti Goyal

Quantum computing with its capacity to compute multiple possibilities at once, and perform some kinds of calculations almost instantly is one leading edge. The integration of QCs and DL undoubtedly represent one such transformative means for improving Natural Language Processing (NLP). By combining the two, this uses quantum principles of superposition and entanglement to make computation faster regarding human language comprehension limitations in classical computing. Deep learning models, specifically neural networks have already made significant improvements over NLP tasks like language translations, sentiment analysis and text generation. Nevertheless, these models also face scalability and computational efficiency issues with huge volumes of data. Quantum computing offers a solution to all this by reducing the time exponentially that it takes to fetch large amounts of language data and running deep learning algorithms. This paper investigates the opportunities that integrating quantum computing and deep learning into NLP practices might unlock. We drafted the fundamentals of quantum computing and why it is a need over classical computing, where we discussed on how quantum beneficial for data processing & optimization of an algorithm. We then explore applications of quantum enhanced deep learning for NLP, with a focus on the impact that training and inference can have on model performance. We demonstrate the utility of this integration by integrating our four SQDs to showcase improvements on diverse NLP tasks through a series of experiments and case studies. We also demonstrate that hybrid quantum-classical approaches allow the combination of traditional ML and quantum-enhanced models, achieving state-of-the-art performance with respect to effectiveness, scalability and precision

Quantum Natural Language Processing: A Comprehensive Survey

Charles Varmantchaonala Moudina, Jean Louis Ebongue Kedieng Fendji, Julius Schöning +1 more

By using the quantum mechanics phenomenon, quantum computers provide a new dimension of computational power that drastically accelerates solving complex and resource-intensive problems. One of the most evolving but, due to the computation power of standard computers, reasonably limited application domain is natural language processing (NLP). NLP seeks to give interactive systems the ability to understand and manipulate human language. Making systems understand and manipulate human languages requires large amounts of data and computational power during learning as well as during the execution of NLP. For handling these amounts of data like text and audio recordings and the complexity of classical NLP algorithms, quantum computation has emerged as a promising solution. This work gives an extensive overview of this new field, known as quantum natural language processing (QNLP). Introducing the basics of quantum computing, we discuss its use in NLP by explaining the different proposed embedding models, quantum algorithms, and other methods of QNLP. As QNLP is still in its infancy, this comprehensive overview is the foundation that points to the upcoming research direction.
