Photon blockade in a high-damping cavity via a gain-type coupler

Abstract

Abstract We propose a scheme to implement photon blockade in a non-Hermitian circuit quantum electrodynamics (circuit-QED) system where a single-mode cavity interacts with a two-level emitter through virtual photon excitation mediated by a coupler resonator. A damping compensation regime is introduced by the phase-lag arising from the medium mode, thereby the periodic exceptional points (EPs) are observed at which the system achieves gain-damping balance. This regime enables photon blockade to occur within the single-mode cavity with high-damping rate by controlling the gain circuit of the coupler, which breaks the limitation of a low-damping rate for photon blockade under weak drive and relaxes the stringent requirements on the quality factor of the cavity. The numerical simulations for the second-order correlation function, obtained using reported experimental parameters, exhibit excellent agreement with our analytical results. The findings of this study provide a circuit-QED solution for single-quantum devices based on the high-damping cavities, which is of great significance for integrated quantum computing networks.

Zero eigenvalues of a photon blockade induced by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with a gain cavity

Y. H. Zhou, H. Z. Shen, X. Y. Zhang +1 more

Under the weak driving limitation, we find that the strong photon blockade can be triggered when all the eigenvalues of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian are equal to zero, so we name this the zero eigenvalues of a photon blockade induced by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. The possibility of realizing single- and two-photon blockades is investigated in the cavity QED system. A negative effective decay rate of the cavity is required, so the gain medium is needed to compensate the intrinsic loss rate of the cavity. The photon antibunching can be realized in both strong and weak nonlinear regimes, which is different from the conventional photon blockade and unconventional photon blockade. Our scheme has paved an avenue towards the study of photon blockades.

Strong photon blockade in an all-fiber emitter-cavity quantum electrodynamics system

Zigeng Li, Xiaomiao Li, Xiaolan Zhong

We present an all-fiber emitter-cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) scheme which makes it possible to realize the strong photon blockade phenomenon in the strong coupling regime. To begin with, we study the emitter-cavity system where the two-level emitter and cavity are driven by a laser field under different driving strengths, respectively. Then, we theoretically derive that through driving the single-mode nanofiber cavity and a single two-level emitter simultaneously with two classical fields, the photon antibunching effect and the intracavity mean photon number will be tremendously enhanced. Compared with the systems driving an emitter or the cavity, respectively, the second-order correlation function at zero time decay ${g}^{(2)}(0)$ in our system can reach the minimum value as 0.0003, which is much smaller than a single-emitter-cavity QED system of emitter drive or cavity drive. In particular, under the condition of quantum interference model, the strong phenomenon of photon antibunching can be flexibly reached by controlling of the intensity relationship between the dual-pumping fields in the strong coupling regime. Our proposal can be achieved in the near future and has great potential applications in high-quality single-photon sources and quantum communication processing.

Unconventional photon blockade in cavity QED with parametric amplification

Madan Mohan Mahana, Sanket Das, Tarak Nath Dey

We theoretically investigate the quantum-interference-induced photon blockade effect in a single two-level atom-cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) system with degenerate parametric amplification. The analytical calculations reveal the optimal parametric gain and phase parameters for achieving optimum unconventional photon blockade conditions. Under the optimal parameter regime, the numerical results of the second-order correlation function demonstrate strong photon antibunching consistent with the analytical results. Furthermore, the numerical results corroborate that coherently driving the atom leads to a stronger photon blockade than a coherently driven cavity with the optimal parameters. We numerically demonstrate that the UPB effect is compromised by a non-zero cavity-atom coupling in the cavity-driven configuration. However, stronger photon antibunching can be attained with a non-zero cavity-atom coupling in the atom-driven configuration. This work may be suitable for experimentally realising a strongly antibunched single-photon source for applications in quantum technology.

Unconventional photon blockade in the two-photon Jaynes–Cummings model with two-frequency cavity drivings and atom driving

Xin 欣 Liu 刘, Meng-Yu 梦雨 Tian 田, Xiao-Ning 晓宁 Cui 崔 +1 more

In a two-frequency cavity driving and atom driving atom-cavity system, we find the photon blockade effect. In a truncated eigenstates space, we calculate the zero-delay second-order correlation function of the cavity mode analytically and obtain an optimal condition for the photon blockade. By including three transition pathways, we find that higher excitations of the cavity mode can be further suppressed and the zero-delay second-order correlation function can be reduced additionally. Based on the master equation, we simulate the system evolution and find that the analytical solutions match well with the numerical results. Our scheme is robust with small fluctuations of parameters and may be used as a new type of single photon source.

Hybrid photon blockade with hyperradiance in a two-qubit cavity QED system

Zhuorui Wang

We investigate a hybrid photon blockade (HPB) scheme in a driven two-qubit cavity QED system arising from the combination of eigenenergy-level anharmonicity (ELA) and quantum destructive interference (QDI). By tuning the qubit and drive detunings, we identify parameter regimes that combine the brightness of ELA-based conventional photon blockade with the strong antibunching of QDI-based unconventional photon blockade. Interestingly, these regimes are accompanied by hyperradiance, indicating that inter-emitter correlations give rise to enhanced collective emission. The HPB mechanism retains parametric generality under coupling asymmetry and is accessible through detuning control, offering a feasible route toward high-quality single-photon sources.

We investigate a hybrid photon blockade (HPB) scheme in a driven two-qubit cavity QED system arising from the combination of eigenenergy-level anharmonicity (ELA) and quantum destructive interference (QDI). By tuning the detuning of a single qubit and pumping field, we identify precise parametric regimes that fully integrate the advantages of high brightness in ELA-based conventional photon blockade and strong antibunching in QDI-based unconventional photon blockade. Interestingly, these regimes are accompanied by hyperradiance, indicating that inter-emitter correlations give rise to enhanced collective emission. The HPB mechanism exhibits parametric generality across varying coupling asymmetries and remains accessible via detuning control, offering a feasible route for generating high-quality single-photon source in diverse quantum platforms.
