Dual-species, multi-qubit logic primitives for Ca+/Sr+ trapped-ion crystals

Colin Bruzewicz, Robert McConnell, Jules Stuart +2 more

Abstract We demonstrate key multi-qubit quantum-logic primitives in a dual-species trapped-ion system based on $${}^{40}$$ 40 Ca $${}^{+}$$ + and $${}^{88}$$ 88 Sr $${}^{+}$$ + ions, using two optical qubits with quantum-logic-control frequencies in the red to near-infrared range. With all ionization, cooling, and control wavelengths in a wavelength band similar for the two species and centered in the visible, and with a favorable mass ratio for sympathetic cooling, this pair is a promising candidate for scalable quantum information processing. Same-species and dual-species two-qubit gates, based on the Mølmer–Sørensen interaction and performed in a cryogenic surface-electrode trap, are characterized via the fidelity of generated entangled states; we achieve fidelities of 98.8(2)% and 97.5(2)% in Ca $${}^{+}$$ + –Ca $${}^{+}$$ + and Sr $${}^{+}$$ + –Sr $${}^{+}$$ + gates, respectively. For a similar Ca $${}^{+}$$ + –Sr $${}^{+}$$ + gate, we achieve a fidelity of 94.3(3)%, and carrying out a Sr $${}^{+}$$ + –Sr $${}^{+}$$ + gate performed with a Ca $${}^{+}$$ + sympathetic cooling ion in a Sr $${}^{+}$$ + –Ca $${}^{+}$$

Optical bistability via dual electromagnetically induced transparency in a coupled quantum-well nanostructure

Zhiping Wang, Benli Yu

We investigate optical bistability (OB) behavior in an asymmetric three-coupled quantum well structure inside a unidirectional ring cavity. By controlling the assisting coherent driven field and the frequency detunings of the two control laser fields, we find that the appearance and disappearance of OB can easily be controlled by adjusting the positions of the dual electromagnetically induced transparency windows. Analysis in the dressed-state picture is also given. Our scheme may be used for building more efficient all-optical switches and logic-gate devices for optical computing and quantum information processing.

Application of magneto-optical logic devices for cryptographic processing in optical communication systems

Abduvali M. Khidirov, Khakberdi Jumanov, J R Kilichov +2 more

This paper presents a study of magneto-optical waveguide logic gates for optical communication systems. Simple logic operations are implemented by modulating photon states in a material through applied magnetic fields. By controlling the magnetic field's amplitude and orientation relative to light propagation, selecting polarizer/analyzer alignment, and configuring waveguides, we designed logic gates including qubit-compatible models that overcome the low coherence times typical of optical qubits. Optical qubits are promising candidates for quantum information processing and data transmission. For cryptographic applications using Vernam encryption, we developed an XOR logic gate simulator based on magneto-optical principles. Experimental validation employed ASCII encoding and text encryption/decryption algorithms, demonstrating successful cryptographic processing of confidential data over fiber-optic lines. The results show that magneto-optical qubit control mechanisms enable modeling diverse waveguide-based logic gates, including a half adder performing parallel XOR and AND operations. These devices facilitate novel information processing and transmission architectures.
