Non-Markovian quantum mechanics on comb

Abstract

Quantum dynamics of a particle on a two-dimensional comb structure is considered. This dynamics of a Hamiltonian system with a topologically constrained geometry leads to the non-Markovian behavior. In the framework of a rigorous analytical consideration, it is shown how a fractional time derivative appears for the relevant description of this non-Markovian quantum mechanics in the framework of fractional time Schrödinger equations. Analytical solutions for the Green functions are obtained for both conservative and periodically driven in time Hamiltonian systems.

Topological Subordination in Quantum Mechanics

Alexander Iomin, Ralf Metzler, Trifce Sandev

An example of non-Markovian quantum dynamics is considered in the framework of a geometrical (topological) subordination approach. The specific property of the model is that it coincides exactly with the fractional diffusion equation, which describes the geometric Brownian motion on combs. Both classical diffusion and quantum dynamics are described using the dilatation operator xddx. Two examples of geometrical subordinators are considered. The first one is the Gaussian function, which is due to the comb geometry. For the quantum consideration with a specific choice of the initial conditions, it corresponds to the integral representation of the Mittag–Leffler function by means of the subordination integral. The second subordinator is the Dirac delta function, which results from the memory kernels that define the fractional time derivatives in the fractional diffusion equation.

Fractional-time quantum dynamics

Alexander Iomin

Application of the fractional calculus to quantum processes is presented. In particular, the quantum dynamics is considered in the framework of the fractional time Schrödinger equation (SE), which differs from the standard SE by the fractional time derivative: partial differential/partial differentialt --> partial differential(alpha)/partial differentialt(alpha). It is shown that for alpha=1/2 the fractional SE is isospectral to a comb model. An analytical expression for the Green's functions of the systems are obtained. The semiclassical limit is discussed.

Quantum Dynamics in a Comb Geometry: Green Function Solutions with Nonlocal and Fractional Potentials

Enrique Chipicoski Gabrick, Ervin Kaminski Lenzi, Antonio S. M. de Castro +2 more

We investigate a generalized quantum Schrödinger equation in a comb-like structure that imposes geometric constraints on spatial variables. The model is extended by the introduction of nonlocal and fractional potentials to capture memory effects in both space and time. We consider four distinct scenarios: (i) a time-dependent nonlocal potential, (ii) a spatially nonlocal potential, (iii) a combined space–time nonlocal interaction with memory kernels, and (iv) a fractional spatial derivative, which is related to distributions asymptotically governed by power laws and to a position-dependent effective mass. For each scenario, we propose solutions based on the Green’s function for arbitrary initial conditions and analyze the resulting quantum dynamics. Our results reveal distinct spreading regimes, depending on the type of non-locality and the fractional operator applied to the spatial variable. These findings contribute to the broader generalization of comb models and open new questions for exploring quantum dynamics in backbone-like structures.

The time-dependent Schrödinger equation in three dimensions under geometric constraints

Irina Petreska, Antonio S. M. de Castro, Trifce Sandev +1 more

We consider a quantum motion governed by the time-dependent Schrödinger equation on a three dimensional comb structure. We derive the corresponding fractional Schrödinger equations for the reduced probability density functions by projection of the three dimensional comb dynamics in the two- and one-dimensional configuration space. This represents another physical example of a system where fractional calculus emerges. We give closed-form solutions of the corresponding equations for the reduced probability density functions in terms of the Fox H-function, by using the Green’s function approach.

Non-Markovian Dynamics of Time-Fractional Open Quantum Systems

Wei, Dongmei, Hailing Liu, Li, Yongmei +3 more

Applications of Time-Fractional Schrodinger Equations (TFSEs) to quantum processes are instructive for understanding and describing the time behavior of real physical systems. By applying three popular TFSEs, namely Naber's TFSE I, Naber's TFSE II, and XGF's TFSE, to a basic open system model of a two-level system (qubit) coupled resonantly to a dissipative environment, we solve exactly for Time-Fractional Single Qubit Open Systems (TFSQOSs). However, the three TFSEs perform badly for the following reasons. On the other hand, in the respective frameworks of the three TFSEs, the total probability for obtaining the system in a single-qubit state is not equal to one with time at fractional order, implying that time-fractional quantum mechanics violates quantum mechanical probability conservation. On the other hand, the latter two TFSEs are not capable of describing the non-Markovian dynamics of the system at all fractional order, only at some fractional order. To address this, we introduce a well-performed TFSE by constructing a new analytic continuation of time combined with the conformable fractional derivative, in which for all fractional order, not only does the total probability for the system equal one at all times but also the non-Markovian features can be observed throughout the time evolution of the system. Furthermore, we study the performances of the four TFSEs applying to an open system model of two isolated qubits each locally interacting with its dissipative environment. By deriving the exact solutions for time-fractional two qubits open systems, we show that our TFSE still possesses the above two advantages compared with the other three TFSEs.

The time-fractional Schrödinger equation in the context of non-Markovian dynamics with dissipation

Chuanjin Zu, Xiangyang Yu

In this paper, we examine the time-fractional Schrödinger equation from the perspective of non-Markovian dynamics in dissipative systems. First, we determine the range of the fractional derivative's order by examining the memory properties of the time-fractional Schrödinger equation. Next, we employ the Jaynes-Cummings model to identify the appropriate mathematical form of the imaginary unit. Finally, we use the refined equation to study quantum teleportation under amplitude damping noise. It was found that the time-fractional Schrödinger equation without fractional operations on the imaginary unit i might be more suitable for describing non-Markovian dynamics in dissipative systems. Our research may provide a new perspective on the time-fractional Schrödinger equation, contributing to a deeper understanding and further development of time-fractional quantum mechanics.
