This chapter explores the transformative potential of quantum computing in enhancing risk management and supply chain resilience. As global supply chains grow increasingly complex and vulnerable to disruptions, traditional computational methods struggle to manage the associated risks effectively. Quantum computing, leveraging principles such as superposition and entanglement, offers unprecedented computational power to tackle these challenges. The chapter delves into the fundamentals of quantum computing, highlighting key concepts and algorithms like Grover's and Shor's algorithms, and their applications in optimizing supply chain operations. Several case studies illustrate practical implementations, including Volkswagen's use of quantum algorithms to optimize traffic flow, IBM and Maersk's block-chain-based Trade Lens platform for real-time shipment tracking, and Honeywell's exploration of quantum computing for advanced manufacturing. Despite its promise, the field faces challenges, including technological scalability, integration with existing systems, and high costs. However, ongoing advancements and research suggest a promising future for quantum computing in building more efficient, resilient, and secure supply chains. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the current state and potential future directions of quantum computing in supply chain management.
