Abstract

Abstract We suggest and describe the protocol of measurements providing completely probabilistic representation of all parameters of polarization biphoton qutrits, i.e. providing explicit expressions for all parameters of qutrits via the probabilities of getting those or other results in measurements.

Measurement of qutrits

A. V. Burlakov, L. A. Krivitskii, S. P. Kulik +2 more

A method of optical realization of a protocol of restoration of the density matrix of an unknown state of a three-level system that represents an arbitrary polarization state of a single-mode biphoton field is proposed. The method is applied to a set of pure states of qutrits, with this set being determined by the properties of SU (2) transformations performed by polarization transformers (retardation plates).

Measurement of qutrits

A. V. Burlakov, L. A. Krivitskiy, S. P. Kulik +2 more

We proposed the procedure of measuring the unknown state of the three-level system - the qutrit, which was realized as the arbitrary polarization state of the single-mode biphoton field. This procedure is accomplished for the set of the pure states of qutrits; this set is defined by the properties of SU(2) transformations, that are done by the polarization transformers.

Practical realization of a quantum cryptography protocol exploiting polarization encoding in qutrits

Gleb Maslennikov, Andrei A. Zhukov, Maria V. Chekhova +1 more

We propose and discuss a specific scheme allowing realization of a quantum cryptography qutrit protocol. This protocol exploits the polarization properties of single-frequency and single-spatial-mode biphotons.

Biphotons as three-level systems: Transformation and measurement

L. A. Krivitskiı̆, S. P. Kulik, Alexander N. Penin +1 more

Two algorithms for measuring the polarization state of the biphoton field prepared in the form of a three-level system (qutrit) are considered. On the basis of the general approach developed by Klyshko [21] for describing the polarization properties of single-mode electromagnetic fields in the fourth order in the field, a procedure for measuring the polarization density matrix of qutrits is proposed and implemented.

Entanglement of biphoton states: qutrits and ququarts

Mikhail Vladimirovich Fedorov, P. A. Volkov, J. M. Mikhailova +2 more

We investigate, in a general form, entanglement of biphoton qutrits and ququarts, i.e. states formed in the processes of, correspondingly, degenerate and non-degenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion. Indistinguishability of photons and, for ququarts, joint presence of the frequency and polarization entanglement are fully taken into account. In the case of qutrits, the most general three-parametric families of maximally entangled and non-entangled states are found, and anticorrelation of the degree of entanglement and polarization is shown to occur and to be characterized by a rather simple formula. Biphoton ququarts are shown to be two-qudits with the single-photon Hilbert space dimensionality d =4, which differentiates them significantly from the often used two-qubit model ( d =2). New expressions for entanglement quantifiers of biphoton ququarts are derived and discussed. Rather simple procedures for a direct measurement of the degree of entanglement are described for both qutrits and ququarts.
