Enhanced and heralded single-photon source models for quantum applications

Moez Attia, Amor Gueddana, Rihab Chatta

In this work we address a comparison study between two kinds of Single Photon Sources (SPS). The first SPS is an Enhanced SPS (ESPS), which consists of an association between InAs/GaAs Quantum Dot (QD) and photonic crystal (PC) microcavity. The ESPS emits a single photon at 1550 nm with probability P1 around 0.7. The second SPS is the Heralded SPS (HSPS) and based on active two-dimensional PC over LiNbO3 and emits photons at 1310 nm and 1550nm. The photon at 1310 nm triggers the detection mechanism of the photon at 1550nm. The probability to obtain a HSPS at 1550 nm is closed to 0.57. Finally, we present a comparison study between ESPS and HSPS when they are used in an application of quantum communication.

Observation of Single-Photon Superradiance from a Quantum Dot

Petru Tighineanu, Raphaël S. Daveau, Tau Bernstorff Lehmann +4 more

Enhancing the interaction between quantum emitters and light is an ongoing quest in quantum physics. The realization of efficient photonic nanostructures has led to remarkable progress in manipulating single quanta of light and matter [1]. Here we demonstrate another approach to enhancing light-matter interaction [2], single-photon superradiance (SPS), which is achieved by storing a single quantum of energy in the collective state of a weakly confining quantum dot. The superradiant state is prepared deterministically with a single laser pulse and leads to the generation of a single photon with near-unity probability. Our work emphasizes the extraordinary potential of weakly confining quantum dots for improving the radiative efficiency, coherence, and quantum nonlinearities of single-photon sources that may readily be embedded in nanophotonic quantum devices.

Fast quantum dot single photon source triggered at telecommunications wavelength

Kelley Rivoire, Sonia Mary Buckley, Arka Majumdar +3 more

We demonstrate a 100 MHz quantum dot single photon source at 900 nm triggered by a telecommunications wavelength laser. The quantum dot is excited by on-chip-generated second harmonic radiation, resonantly enhanced by a photonic nanocavity.
