Feature extraction is the key in machine learning, which will affect the accuracy and efficiency of model. Due to the increasing complexity of the data, classical algorithms are often not powerful anymore. We introduce an approach combining QML with optimization algorithms to improve feature learning, using the computational power of quantum computers. Quantum Machine Learning (QML) is a new multidisciplinary field that integrates machine learning with quantum computing. on how quantum algorithms can enhance Machine Learning activities, such as Dimensionality reduction and optimization. In this paper we study the hybrid binary quantum-optimization algorithm and how optimization with quantum advantages can bring more efficient and robust feature extraction when used in conjunction with machine learning tasks. This Study also explores the use of hybrid binary quantum optimization methods for feature extraction.

Quantum Machine Learning Feature Selection Algorithm

Jincheng Zhang

This paper introduces a novel feature selection algorithm based on quantum machine learning, designed to optimize the selection of relevant features for machine learning models. Traditional feature selection methods often rely on classical computational techniques, which can be limited in their ability to effectively handle complex feature spaces and intricate relationships. This research explores the potential of quantum mechanics to enhance feature selection by leveraging quantum properties, specifically superposition and entanglement, to efficiently explore and prioritize the most impactful features. We present a theoretical framework and initial experimental results demonstrating the algorithm's superior performance in selecting relevant features compared to existing classical methods. The core mechanism centers around quantum-enhanced feature representation and a novel quantum optimization process for feature ranking. This work holds promise for improving the accuracy and efficiency of machine learning models, particularly in high-dimensional datasets.

Quantum machine learning for feature selection in Internet of Things network intrusion detection

Patrick J. Davis, Sean Coffey, Lubjana Beshaj +1 more

Feature selection is a critical step in the machine learning (ML) model development workflow, aimed at identifying the most relevant subset of features from a dataset to improve ML model performance. In this paper, we investigate the use of quantum annealing to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of feature selection, as compared to classical algorithmic methods for feature selection, prior to constructing a ML model for Internet of Things network intrusion detection. We aim to determine the optimal selection of network traffic features that contribute most to the detection of network intrusions. Leveraging a quantum annealing algorithm, which exploits quantum mechanics principles to find optimal solutions, along with D-Wave’s hybrid quantum computing service, enables us to successfully tackle this combinatorial optimization problem. Our quantum machine learning approach leverages the strengths of both classical and quantum computing, offering a “one-shot” solution to feature selection without the need for iterative ML model training or incremental construction of the solution.
