Abstract

With the increasing demand for image transmission in various fields including medical, military and multimedia, the security of information contained on these images has become a standing problem.. This work provides information security for images transfer for 160 Gbps over 140 km optical fiber link. Image encryption and decryption is maintained by applying blowfish algorithm via MATLAB software with the adaption of OptiSystem software to examine data transmission over 16 channels WDM system.. The proposed algorithm has provide a large key space, resistivity to differential attacks, anti-differential attack, brute-force attack and less correlation between adjacent pixels However, channel dispersion and signal attenuation has been controlled with the adaption of symmetric dispersion compensation map and an erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) at the end of the fiber link. Our WDM system design has reached a high figure of merit of about 22,400 as compared with different previous schemes. Moreover, to provoke the power of the proposed cipher algorithm, key space, correlations, histogram analysis and different security analysis has been studied and compared with other algorithms.

Telecommunication of a Secure Data in Optical Fiber

Arwa A. Moosa, May Hattim Abood

One of the most important issue in networking is the tremendous demand for a huge bandwidth with a great security. Optical network is an efficient telecommunications networks used to transfer data with great facilities. To provide an additional capacity for higher bandwidth, different frequencies and longer distance, optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) will be used. To transfer data securely, an important encryption method RC4 will be used to protect data on the common channel as it’s cryptographic technique is faster, simpler to implement and the keystream is a arbitrary sequence of bits which guarantees the security of used cipher. MATLAB program will used to encrypt and decrypt the image with transferring it optically by Optisystem simulation program.

Enhancing the Security of Fiber Optical Network using Cryptography

Sheenu Sachdeva, Dinesh

An optical fiber is an important communication channel as it proposes a high bandwidth and less attenuation, and can be easy challenging assistances such as huge-quality data transmission and others in computer networks. The basic optical transmission system consists of three basic elements which are fiber media (transmission channel), light sources as the input (covert electric signal into optic signal) and light detector as the output (convert optic signal into electric signal). FBG is the key component in optical communication system as, dispersion compensators, filters and flatteners gain. There is need to introduce mechanism that should be capable to provide data security in less time. More over there is need to introduce energy efficient mechanism that should be capable to reduce the size of packet during data transmission. There are several problems that are faced due to attenuation in fiber optics. There is need of repeater in order to regenerate the signals. Process working principle of proposed technique that is being used enhancement of security in steganography has been discussed with process flow and result. It states how brute force and timing attack are not applicable on proposed technique.

High bit rate secure FSO system utilizing Hill coding

Adil Fadhil Mushatet, Elaf A. Fadil, Essam N. Abdulla

Abstract To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to build a secure free space optical communication system with a high bit rate of 80 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexing using a Hill coding cipher. The signal message was encrypted by applying an algorithm secure coding. According to the obtained results, in the event of favorable weather (fog), the link distance was about 4.4 km. The link distance was degraded in the bad weather (dust) to become 1.4. Furthermore, the suggested system has a communication merit (bitrate product repeater distance) of roughly 352 Gb/s km in fog conditions and 112 Gb/s km in dust conditions. This is regarded as the highest communication merit when compared to prior attempts and investigations. The effectiveness of the proposed encryption cipher has also been evaluated by a revision of various security studies, key space, correlations, histogram analyses, and results comparison with other alternative approaches. When compared to earlier studies and researches, this is thought to have the best communication merit. In addition, According to the outcomes, integrating cryptographic encryption and decryption methods into FSO systems maintained data security and offered resistance to eavesdropping assaults.

Comparative Analysis of Fiber Optical Network Security Using Optical Steganography and Encryption Method

Naemah Mubarakah, M. Agus Susanto Sinaga, Rika Wahyuni +3 more

The development of communication technology is currently progressing at an extremely rapid pace. One of the most widely applied technologies for data transmission is fiber optic communication, which uses light as the transmission medium. This technology enables data to be transmitted at very high speeds. However, in the process of data transmission, a security mechanism is required to protect information from unauthorized access. Attacks on fiber optic networks can lead to significant alterations in the data received compared to the data sent by the transmitter. This poses a serious risk, particularly when the transmitted data is confidential. Two methods that can be employed to secure fiber optic networks are Optical Steganography and Optical Encryption. The working principle of Optical Steganography involves hiding signals in public channels, while Optical Encryption functions by encrypting the transmitted signals. Both methods can be implemented using OptiSystem software. According to the results of this study, Optical Encryption demonstrates a higher level of reliability compared to Optical Steganography. Optical Encryption achieved a Q-Factor value of 14.65 and a BER of 6.55×10−49. In terms of Q-Factor, Optical Encryption is shown to be 16.3% more effective than Optical Steganography and 90.4% more efficient compared to designs without a security system.

Theoretical study of the EDFA optical amplifier implementation scheme improving the performance of a quantum key distribution system integrated with an WDM optical transport network

D. V. Tupyakov, N. Ivankov, Irina O. Vorontsova +2 more

A version of an erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) application scheme designed to increase the efficiency of the simultaneous quantum key distribution session and transmission of information by classical channels in a single optical fiber is explored.A theoretical study of the possibility to use EDFA in the explored way was conducted by numerical simulation methods. The mathematical model is based on the EDFA dynamics equations and the equations that determine the secure key generation rate in case of the subcarrier-wave quantum key distribution.A method for determining the optimal parameters of the scheme under study is described and the evaluation of the feasibility of using EDFA in the explored way is performed.A comparative analysis of the subcarrier-wave quantum key distribution system performance when integrated into an optical network is made in terms of the secure key generation rate for the cases when EDFA is either used or not.The results obtained demonstrate high efficiency of the scheme under study, i.e., the maximum achievable distance of the secure key distribution is increased while maintaining the efficiency of the information transmission.

Optical access system by Y-00 protocol at 2.5-Gb/s data rate for secure optical fiber communication

Fumio Futami, Osamu Hirota

Recently, optical fiber transmission lines have flows of huge data including confidential information. Presently, the mathematical cipher is employed in some access systems to protect eavesdropping. However, the cipher break history shows such mathematical cipher is not reliable enough. Such fact demands an urgent development of more reliable cipher and drives us to focus actively on the research and development of physical cipher. Y-00 quantum cipher is an encryption scheme combined with physical phenomena and mathematical cipher, and it provides high speed performance and a provable security. So far, we have applied Y-00 quantum cipher to point-to-point transmission systems. However, secure communication system in the multiple remote point access system from a local point is also important. In this work, we propose a secure multiple point access system using the intensity modulated Y-00 quantum cipher. A one-to-three point transmission system using Y-00 quantum cipher in the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) scheme is experimentally demonstrated where Y-00 quantum ciphers encrypted with three different secret keys are transmitted from a local point to three users in different remote access points. For the first time to our knowledge, Y-00 cipher communications between users with the correct keys are successfully demonstrated at 2.5-Gb/s data rate while users with the different keys are not able to communicate.
