A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF IT AUDIT METHODOLOGIES IN THE AGE OF QUANTUM COMPUTING

Ololade Gilbert Fakeyedea, Evelyn Chinedu Okeleke, Patrick Azuka Okeleke +1 more

The emergence of quantum computing presents a profound challenge and opportunity for information technology (IT) audit methodologies and IT security. Quantum computing’s potential to break classical encryption methods and its promise of exponential computational power necessitate a proactive response. This comprehensive review explores the fundamentals of quantum computing, the vulnerabilities of classical encryption, the transition to quantum-safe encryption, and the role of IT auditors in navigating this quantum landscape. Additionally, we address emerging quantum technologies, ethical considerations, and the interplay between quantum computing and IT security. To thrive in the quantum era, organisations are advised to plan for quantum-safe transitions, invest in quantum-resistant cryptography, monitor evolving regulations, develop quantum-ready workforces, integrate Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), and adopt a long-term security strategy. Adapting IT audit methodologies to the quantum era requires a multidisciplinary approach, and the recommendations provided here aim to guide organisations in securing their digital assets in this transformative quantum-empowered future.

Quantum Resistance Blockchain Algorithm using QHF and Novel Consensus Mechanism

Soumyadip Paul, Mausumi Maitra Mazumdar, Sarit Chakraborty

The emergence of quantum computing poses a significant threat to the security of traditional blockchain systems, which rely heavily on classical cryptographic algorithms. To safeguard the integrity and reliability of blockchain technology in the upcoming era, this work proposes a novel quantum-resistant blockchain architecture. This approach integrates a robust consensus mechanism, with advanced quantum cryptographic primitives, including quantum digital signatures based on a Quantum Hash Function (QHF). Incorporating a quantum hash function enhances the blockchain resistance, providing an additional layer of security against quantum attacks. By combining these elements, our method creates a blockchain system fortified against the potential vulnerabilities introduced by quantum computers. The proposed solution leverages the power of QHFs to safeguard transaction integrity, while the consensus mechanism ensures the reliability and decentralization of the network. This paper also delves into the theoretical underpinnings of quantum blockchains, exploring their design, feasibility, and potential applications, emphasizing their promising future, particularly in areas such as decentralized identity authentication. Finally, it contributes to the development of a secure and resilient blockchain ecosystem capable of thriving in the coming era.
