On the potential of quantum walks for modeling financial return distributions

Stijn De Backer, Luis E. C. Rocha, J. Ryckebusch +1 more

Accurate modeling of the temporal evolution of asset prices is crucial for understanding financial markets. We explore the potential of discrete-time quantum walks to model the evolution of asset prices. Return distributions obtained from a model based on the quantum walk algorithm are compared with those obtained from classical methodologies. We focus on specific limitations of the classical models, and illustrate that the quantum walk model possesses great flexibility in overcoming these. This includes the potential to generate asymmetric return distributions with complex market tendencies and higher probabilities for extreme events than in some of the classical models. Furthermore, the temporal evolution in the quantum walk possesses the potential to provide asset price dynamics.

A novel approach for quantum financial simulation and quantum state preparation

Yen-Jui Chang, Wei‐Ting Wang, Hao-Yuan Chen +2 more

Abstract Quantum state preparation is a vital process in quantum computing and quantum information processing. The ability to accurately and reliably prepare specific quantum states is essential for a variety of applications. One of the promising applications of quantum computers is quantum simulation. This requires preparing a quantum state that represents the system we’re trying to simulate. This research introduces a novel simulation algorithm, the multi-Split-Steps Quantum Walk (multi-SSQW), designed to learn and load complicated probability distributions using parameterized quantum circuits (PQC) with a variational solver on classical simulators. The multi-SSQW algorithm is a modified version of the split-steps quantum walk, enhanced to incorporate a multi-agent decision-making process, rendering it suitable for modeling financial markets. The study provides theoretical descriptions and empirical investigations of the multi-SSQW algorithm to demonstrate its promising capabilities in probability distribution simulation and financial market modeling. Taking advantage of quantum computation, the multi-SSQW model's complex financial distributions and scenarios with high accuracy, providing valuable insights and mechanisms for financial analysis and decision-making. The multi-SSQW’s key benefits include its modeling flexibility, stable convergence, and instantaneous computation. These advantages underscore its rapid modeling and prediction potential in dynamic financial markets.

Quantum-inspired framework for big data analytics: evaluating the impact of movie trailers and its financial returns

Jaiteg Singh, Kamalpreet Singh Bhangu, Farman Ali +2 more

In the context of the growing influence of businesses and marketers on social media platforms, understanding the impact of emotionally charged content on consumer behavior has become increasingly crucial. This study proposes a novel framework, leveraging quantum computing principles, to assess the emotional impact of movie trailers. The framework incorporates big data analytics and utilizes Quantum Walk andQuantum Time Series models to investigate the relationship between a movie trailer's emotional intensity and its financial performance. Unlike sequential problem-solving approach of traditional computing models, Quantum superposition allows exploring multiple options at once. An analysis of 141 movie trailers released after January 1, 2022, revealed a positive correlation between a trailer's emotive score and its financial success. These findings suggest that trailers evoking a stronger emotional response tend to achieve greater box office returns compared to those with a lower emotional impact. This research underscores the pivotal role of emotionally resonant content in shaping consumer behavior and cinematic outcomes. It would offer valuable insights for filmmakers and marketers to optimize audience engagement and financial returns.
