A Review on Smart Healthcare Employing Quantum Internet of Things

Kartick Sutradhar, Ranjitha Venkatesh, Priyanka Venkatesh

The Quantum Internet of Things (QIoT) in the healthcare industry holds the promise of transforming patient care, diagnostics, and medical research. Quantum-enhanced sensors, communication, and computation offer unprecedented capabilities that can revolutionize how healthcare services are delivered and experienced. This article explores the potential of QIoT in the context of smart healthcare, where interconnected quantum-enabled devices and systems create an ecosystem that enhances data security, enables real-time monitoring, and advances medical knowledge. We delve into the applications of quantum sensors in precise health monitoring, the role of quantum communication in secure telemedicine, and the computational power of quantum computing in drug discovery and personalized medicine. We discuss challenges such as technical feasibility, scalability, and regulatory considerations, along with the emerging trends and opportunities in this transformative field. By examining the intersection of quantum technologies and smart healthcare, this article aims to shed light on the novel approaches and breakthroughs that could redefine the future of healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

Smart Healthcare Services Employing Quantum Internet of Things on Metaverse

Kartick Sutradhar, Ranjitha Venkatesh, Priyanka Venkatesh

This chapter explores the integration of the Quantum Internet of Things (QIoT) with smart healthcare services within the Metaverse, presenting a paradigm shift in healthcare delivery. By fusing quantum technologies with virtual reality environments, a novel ecosystem emerges where quantum-enabled sensors, secure communication, and advanced computing reshape healthcare interactions. Quantum-enhanced sensors monitor physiological data with unmatched precision, seamlessly transmitting real-time information to the Metaverse. Quantum cryptography ensures the security and privacy of sensitive health data exchanged within virtual consultations, paving the way for remote telemedicine and personalized diagnostics. Quantum computing optimizes complex simulations, expediting drug discovery and treatment simulations. However, challenges like quantum hardware stability and user interface design must be navigated. This chapter highlights the transformative potential of integrating QIoT with the Metaverse in healthcare, offering innovative solutions that redefine patient care, diagnostics, and medical research.

A Framework for Post Quantum Migration in IoT-Based Healthcare Systems

Asif Alif, Khondokar Fida Hasan, Basker Palaniswamy +1 more

Smart healthcare industry is increasingly relying on Internet of Things (IoT) devices to improve patient care and operational efficiency. However, the cryptographic algorithms that enable fundamental security and are widely used in these cyber systems are vulnerable to attacks by emerging quantum computers - known as Quantum Threat. This paper examines the quantum threat to healthcare IoT across the four layers of the IoT architecture: physical, network, perception, and application. It proposes a comprehensive migration framework integrating a phased hybrid approach with crypto-agility to transition healthcare IoT systems to quantum-safe cryptography. This framework prioritises resource-constrained devices, emphasises interoperability, and considers the challenges of vendor readiness and infrastructure upgrades. This paper contributes a detailed, phased migration plan specifically tailored to the unique security needs and resource limitations of IoT-based healthcare systems.
