Abstract

Quantum entanglement is a crucial resource for performing quantum computing and constructing quantum communication networks. The preparation and manipulation of entangled light field are the basic elements of quantum communication. With the development of science and technology, multicolor multipartite entanglement is becoming a kind of special resource for quantum information, quantum networks, and quantum memory. In this paper, we propose a scheme of generating quadripartite entanglement among four output beams from a two-port frequency doubling resonator, in which a type-II phase matching nonlinear crystal is placed. We make two fundamental-frequency pump beams with the same frequency and vertical polarization pass through the nonlinear crystal to produce two frequency-doubling beams. There is a quadripartite entanglement between the frequency-doubling beams, which are output at two ports of the optical resonator, and the incident fundamental beams. Based on the transmission matrix from the coupled wave equation, the self-consistent equations of the intracavity modes and the corresponding noise properties of the output modes can be obtained. Then, the quadripartite entanglement produced from two second harmonic beams and two reflected fundamental-frequency pump beams, is verified by using the positive partial transposition criterion, in a wide range of pumping power and analysis frequency. The setup proposed in this work is compact and experimentally feasible. It is also convenient to separate the four entangled beams spatially, with different wavelengths and polarizations. When the beam wavelengths are matched with 1560 nm (low loss window of fiber) and 780 nm (atomic absorption line of Rb), this scheme can be more useful in both quantum communication and quantum memory.

Generation of multicolored tripartite entanglement by frequency doubling in a two-port resonator

Rongguo Yang, Shuqin Zhai, Kui Liu +2 more

Multicolored multipartite entanglement is of great importance in quantum communication and quantum information networks. In this paper, we calculate the quantum fluctuations of the fundamental frequency pump beam and second-harmonic beams in a two-port frequency doubling resonator, and investigate the tripartite continuous-variable entanglement generated by this device for the first time, to our knowledge. The quantum correlation among fundamental frequency pump beam and two harmonic beams is studied using a necessary and sufficient criterion for Gaussian entanglement states, the positivity under partial transposition. It is found that two-color tripartite entanglement exists in a large range of pump intensities and analysis frequencies.

Bright four-color quadripartite entanglement from quasi-phase-matching cascaded nonlinear optical frequency conversion

Junfeng Wang, Bo Liu, Shaopeng Liu +5 more

Abstract We propose an experimentally feasible scheme to produce bright four-color continuous-variable entanglement by intracavity quasi-phase-matching cascaded nonlinear optical frequency conversion in only one optical superlattice. The second, third and fourth harmonics can be generated by frequency doubling of the input fundamental field at frequency , the sum frequency of fundamental and second harmonic fields, and frequency doubling of the second harmonic field, respectively. The entanglement properties influenced by system parameters are theoretically discussed according to the sufficient inseparability criterion proposed by van Loock and Furusawa. Such compact multipartite continuous-variable entanglement has potential applications in quantum communication and computation networks.

Quadripartite entangled state from cascaded second-harmonic generation

Rui Yang, Shuqin Zhai, Rongguo Yang

A generation system of continuous-variable (CV) quadripartite entangled state based on two cascaded second-harmonic generation (SHG) cavities below the threshold is investigated. Two reflected fundamental beams of the first cavity, the reflected second-harmonic beam and the output fourth-harmonic beam of the second cavity are proved to be entangled, and the dependence of the entanglement degree on the normalized frequency, pump parameter, fourth-harmonic loss parameter, and second-harmonic loss parameter is also analyzed. Due to the fact that the cavity parameters and the nonlinear crystals of the two SHG cavities can be freely chosen, the practicality of the proposed protocol is relatively perfect and the system can also be extended to the preparation of multicolor entangled states for a quantum network.

Observation of twin beam correlations and quadrature entanglement by frequency doubling in a two-port resonator

O.-K Lim, B Boland, M Saffman

We demonstrate production of short wavelength beams with nonclassical intensity correlations and quadrature entanglement using second harmonic generation in a nonlinear resonator with two output ports. The two output beams at the harmonic frequency have no direct interaction but are both nonlinearly coupled to a common pump beam. The nonlinear coupling produces amplitude and phase correlations between the beams which results in quadrature entanglement. The output beams at λ = 428.5 nm are shown to exhibit 0.6 dB of amplitude quadrature squeezing, 0.9 dB of nonclassical intensity correlations, and 0.3 dB of entanglement using about 30 mW of pump power.

Quadripartite entanglement from coupled type I second harmonic generation

Guo Juan, Shuqin Zhai, Zhai Ze‐hui

We present a feasible protocol of continuous variable quadripartite entanglement from the coupled type I second harmonic generation (SHG) below threshold. According to the sufficient inseparability criteria for multipartite continuous variable (CV) entanglement, the four output fields are proved to be multicolored entangled beams in separable locations with four‐mode amplitude quadratures correlation and relative phase quadratures correlation. It shows that the coupled system can produce a compact tunable multimode entangled source that can be applied into the quantum communication. image

Generation of quadripartite entanglement based on four-wave mixing process and linear beam splitter

Shengkai Yu, Huan-Zhang Liu, Shengshuai Liu +1 more

As a crucial quantum resource in quantum information processing, multipartite entanglement plays an important role not only in the field of testing basic quantum effects, but also in the applications of quantum network, quantum communication and quantum computing. The generation of multipartite entanglement usually involves many complex linear processes and nonlinear processes. In this paper, we theoretically propose a scheme for generating genuine quadripartite entanglement by linking two independent four-wave mixing (FWM) processes with one linear beam splitter (BS). Here, we use one linear BS to mix the probe beams amplified by two independent FWM processes. We first set the transmissivity of the linear BS to be 0.5 and study the effect of the intensity gain of the system on quadripartite entanglement by applying the positivity under partial transposition (PPT) criterion. The results show that there exists genuine quadripartite entanglement in all gain regions, and the degree of entanglement increases with intensity gain increasing. And then, the dependence of quadripartite entanglement on the transmissivity of the linear BS is studied when the intensity gains of two independent FWM processes are both set to be 3. We find that the transmissivity of the linear BS can affect the entanglement properties of the system. At the same time, we also find that the system can generate genuine quadripartite entanglement when the transmissivity of the linear BS is not equal to 0 or 1. Finally, in order to reveal the entanglement structure of the system, we further investigate the dependence of the possible tripartite entanglement and bipartite entanglement on the intensity gain of the system by using the PPT criterion. The results show that there exists the genuine tripartite entanglement in this system, and the degree of entanglement increases as the intensity gain increases. However, there exists no genuine bipartite entanglement in this system, some of bipartite states are always separable, and the entanglement of the other bipartite states gradually become weak and eventually disappear with the increase of the intensity gain. Our theoretical result provides a simple and reliable scheme for generating genuine quadripartite entanglement by using FWM process in atomic ensemble and linear BS.
