Novel Noise Injection Scheme to Guarantee Zero Secrecy Outage under Imperfect CSI

Abstract

The paper proposes a novel artificial noise (AN) injection strategy in multiple-input single-output multiple-antenna-eavesdropper (MISOME) systems under imperfect channel estimation at the legitimate channel to achieve zero secrecy outage probability under any circumstance. The zero secrecy outage is proved to always be achievable regardless of the eavesdropper's number of antennas or location when the pair secrecy and codeword rates are chosen properly. The results show that when there is perfect channel state information, the zero-outage secrecy throughput increases with the transmit power, which is important for secrecy design. Additionally, an analysis of the secrecy throughput and secrecy energy efficiency gives further insight into the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Artificial-Noise-Aided Beamforming Design in the MISOME Wiretap Channel Under the Secrecy Outage Probability Constraint

Bo Wang, Pengcheng Mu, Zongze Li

This paper studies the artificial noise (AN) aided beamforming design in the multiple-input, single-output, and multiple-eavesdropper wiretap channel from the perspective of secrecy outage. Unlike many existing works, which directly adopted the traditional null-space AN scheme, we start with a general assumption on the structure of the transmit signal, and seek to find the optimal structure by solving a secrecy outage probability (SOP) constrained secrecy rate maximization problem. By generalizing several existing conclusions regarding a single-antenna eavesdropper, we prove that the null-space AN scheme is indeed optimal for an arbitrary number of the eavesdropper’s antennas from the perspective of secrecy outage. Furthermore, the optimal power allocation between the information-bearing signal and the AN is found under both general conditions and the conservative assumption that the eavesdropper can be arbitrarily close to the transmitter or his receiver noise power can be arbitrarily low. It is also found that the increase in the eavesdropper’s antenna number is equivalent to requiring a smaller SOP under the conservative assumption. The results in this paper can help generalize existing design solutions for single-antenna eavesdroppers to multi-antenna eavesdroppers.

The power allocation problem is also studied and the closed-form optimal solution is obtained. It is found that the increase in the eavesdropper's antenna number is equivalent to requiring a smaller SOP.

Safe convex approximation to outage-based MISO secrecy rate optimization under imperfect CSI and with artificial noise

Qiang Li, Wing‐Kin Ma, Anthony Man–Cho So

Consider a scenario in which an MISO channel is overheard by multiple single-antenna eavesdroppers. The transmitter has perfect channel state information (CSI) with the legitimate channel, but has imperfect CSI with the eavesdroppers' channels. The CSI uncertainties are assumed stochastic. We formulate an artificial-noise (AN)-aided secrecy-rate maximization problem where the CSI uncertainties are handled using an outage-based formulation. Our aim is to find, for this problem, tractable designs for the transmit and AN covariances. Unfortunately, outage-based optimization problems are generally difficult to solve. The main contribution here is to derive a safe, convex optimization-based, approximation to the considered problem. The advantages of the method are shown by simulations.

Guaranteeing Zero Secrecy Outage in Relaying Systems under Eavesdropper’s Arbitrary Location and Unlimited Number of Antennas

Hien Quang Ta, Nga B. T. Nguyen, Khuong Ho‐Van +1 more

This paper proposes a three-phase transmission scheme to ensure zero secrecy outage in decode-and-forward relay systems by using the strategies of artificial noise (AN) injection and channel state information (CSI) leakage avoidance. The zero-outage secrecy spectral efficiency (ZOSSE) and energy efficiency (ZOSEE) of the scheme are then analyzed. Finally, the paper demonstrates that the scheme can always achieve zero secrecy outage even when the eavesdropper has an unlimited number of antennas or is in an arbitrary location, which shows its practical applicability. The paper also shows that the ZOSSE increases with the transmit power and that both the ZOSSE and the ZOSEE are maximized when the relay is halfway between the transmitter and the receiver. This suggests that the placement of the helper node is important in securing the communication of two distant nodes.

Achieving zero secrecy outage in amplify-and-forward relaying systems

Huynh Huy Cuong, Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy +1 more

A proposed artificial noise (AN) injection strategy is considered in amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying systems. The limit of secrecy rate, hence the resulting zero-outage secrecy throughput, is determined subject to guarantee zero secrecy outage toward any powerful eavesdropper. The results show that the proposed simple strategy can achieve zero secrecy outage, which cannot be achieved in literature, and that it is easy to apply in wireless networks. The results also show an important finding: increasing throughput against increasing transmit power in secrecy.

UAV-Aided Secure Transmission in MISOME Wiretap Channels With Imperfect CSI

Yang Chen, Zhongpei Zhang

In this paper, we study secure cooperative transmission for the multiple-input-single-output multiple-eavesdropper (MISOME) systems, where a source (Alice) aims to send confidential messages to a legitimate user (Bob) with the aid of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) enabled friendly jammer (Charlie) in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers (Eves). To further guarantee the secrecy performance, artificial noise (AN) beamforming together with cooperative Jamming (CJ) has been utilized in this considered system with only location and statistical channel state information of the Eves. Specifically, taking imperfect channel state information (CSI) between Charlie and Bob into account, we derive the exact closed-form expression of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and develop an efficient scheme to solve the secrecy rate maximization (SRM) problem which has been verified as a convex one under certain SOP. Moreover, we propose an optimal UAV placement strategy to further enhance secrecy performance. The numerical results are provided to validate that the system security would seriously degenerate with channel uncertainty. Besides, the proposed scheme is verified to outperform the terrestrial CJ scheme in improving the secrecy rate and secure energy efficiency (EE) performance under perfect CSI or tolerable channel estimation errors. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed UAV placement strategy in enhancing transmission security and the applicability of the proposed scheme has also been demonstrated.
